It is impressive and there are a lot of pluses. But for shear simplicity, dropping a 350 or 455 would certainly be easier. I would kind of break it down like this:

    LS swap pluses:
    • Engines are plentiful
    • Engines are cheap. You can beat on it like you stole it and if you do manage to blow it up another long block is only a grand from you local salvage yard.
    • Engines have extraordinary performance per dollar ratio
    • Engine are extremely durable
    • Easy and cheap to go fuel injected if you want to.
    • Draws a crowd at the car hang outs. This is only a plus if you like to answer a lot of question.

    LS swap minuses:
    • Have to run an electric fuel pump
    • Have to run and electric cooling fan in most cases
    • More complicated swap because of motor mounts, headers and such
    • LS motor are notorious for noisy valve train. It is a kind of sewing machine sound.
    • You make the purists cry and you are not really welcome at the Buick drag events

I say put in the 350, get it running well and then if you wanted more power you could add a single turbo kit from Mark Burton. The single kit is made to work with the stock exhaust manifolds. I am not sure if the kit is available yet, maybe send him a PM if you are interested.

    Steven,

Thanks for the comparison and pros and cons. Despite all the issues, seems as though she is crazy fast, and sounds like she is not about to suffer fools so to speak. Again, thanks for the info!

    Sean,

It makes sense, and is hard to argue with your reasoning! I think that it would be the easiest way to go in all honesty. Thanks again for the info, and by the way how's the book coming, I can't wait to get to read all the valuable info in it! Do you need any one to "proofread" it for ya?

    Doug,

The best thing about the 350 swap is that you can leave the frame mounts in place as well as use the power steering, alternator etc from the 300. Swapping to the BBB frame pads usually requires taking the front suspension appart and it is a hassle.

The book is coming slowly... I have worked wayyy too much this year so that has slowed it down. The good news is that the extra $ funds the Buick projects. I am going to put out a free intro to the book with some tuning info and to let everyone know about the ongoing projects and R&D that will be included in the book. Keep an eye on the SBB section, I will be posting the intro on-line. Shoot me a PM and I can get you my e-mail then you can proof read the book. :beers2:

I'm a mostly stock guy myself, so I vote for the 300.
