Just found out from Mike that he sells a few different versions of these. I had an idea that has me looking for an inexpensive option for a 4.250 stroke.
Crower billet here. 4.400 stroke, 523 ci. Will turn down to 3.00" mains when installing into the Tomahawk block. What's the plan? Steve
I'd really prefer to use the Moldex that is in my 505 now in my new block. I thought I could buy the less expensive Crower to put back in my existing motor but that plan is falling apart.....My engine guy no longer has my balance info to match the bob weight and the savings of the cheaper crank is shrinking to where it's not worth it.
Gary, I thought about keeping the 523 together also instead of wasting a perfectly good prepped race block, girdle, etc. and keep it as a backup engine. But after looking at the costs involved in putting together another complete engine I'm a little bit gun-shy to do that. Financially wise, I'll need to just swap parts where I can to keep the costs in check. Honestly..... some times I think about selling the race car, Tomahawk block, truck and trailer and moving on to something else! It gets really difficult to do everything "solo". Steve
Ya, that's because your trying to go and run as fast as possible.. and that costs money. There is no payback, no way to cushion the costs. I know, I saw George do it for years. I think you spending money to just put your current internals into a TA block, will be a bummer. You have a good bracket motor, stop it down and go racing. Have some fun. If you like the bracket racing end of the sport, then keep the 523, and put a throttle stop on it, and some electronics in the car. There is money out there. Go chase it. The last year I raced regularly was 1997. I raced every weekend save for 2, from the first weekend in May, to Halloween. I won a couple gamblers races, and a couple regular events, placed in the money a lot. Had a hell of a good time. I broke out in the final round of the Division 5 ET finals out in Nebraska. Had I touched the brake pedal just a little sooner, I would have been Div 5 Super Pro Champ, and a gold card would have come with that. I would have been set to make some serious money the next year.. (the gold card gets you into most NHRA bracket races for free) The Regal would run 10.50 full throttle. I stopped it down to the 11.60 range, left on a clean tree, and caught about half my opponents. Saved a lot of wear and tear on the equipment and tires, and on me. As it was, I kept track of all travel expenses, and every expense related to the car and racing it. I spent $63 for the whole season. Had I won that gold card, I would have not sold the race car the next year, to buy the equipment and put the money in the bank to start Tri-Shield.. in '99. Some days, I wonder what the hell I was thinking.. but not too often. ----------------- Then.. take that pop can block, build up some serious HP with the new heads coming out, and put that motor in the car a couple times a year, to go to the Buick events. That's exactly what I plan on doing here. JW
Good points Jim!! and no... my wife would never read or hear that!! LOL Guess I'm just a little overwhelmed with the new shop, new house, backlog of products, traveling for work, etc. Maybe I need to remove the GSX from the shop because looking at it every day and knowing it will be awhile before I get to run it again is a little bit of a downer. Don't worry about me..... this crap is in my blood and I don't see getting a transfusion anytime in the near future. I just need to vent once in a while to remain "sane". Sorry for highjacking the thread Gary!!!!! Carry on!! Steve
Jim This has been my mantra for years. Scat and now Thumper can run a lot quicker, but I stop 'em to 10.50 and race every weekend with out breakage or even taking the car out of the trailer between weekends. Its more fun going slower and going rounds than going fast and being on the trailer. This philosophy has netted us many wins. Steve you are commended for running as hard as you do and being so competitive. gary
Don't take it out of context. I didn't say I WAS motivated.... just said it's "starting to feel a little like MOTIVATION!!":laugh::laugh: Hell, we have SNOW on the ground right now.... how's that for motivation! Steve
Not to change the subject, Mike I saw you dropping off a box of goodies for Jason Line when the NHRA was in town I understand he is working on his buick again. I didn't get much of a chance to talk with him, any idea what he's planning on doing with the car.........Mike
