Which cam would make more power with Stage 1 SE alum heads (ported), 12.5 comp, Wildcat intake, 1050 Dom, small 1 7/8 headers, 4200 conv, 3.50 gears, 3300 race weight?
608 hydraulic or tried and true 308S?

With my 3250 pd plus driver car about 20 years ago on Buick day [Labor Day and my runs are noted in the northeast chapter]I was going 10.20 with the 308 cam and steel heads and less compression.I did have 411 and a spool in the back, with 30 inch slicks. In my opinion, just mine, you would do even better with your heads with the bigger cam.But I would ask Mike from TA,he's very knowledgeable.Bruno.

    Bruce,

608 Hyd might be a better match for your converter and gears.

308 would be stronger on the dyno.

You must consider your trap rpm for the hyd cam.. if it's north of 6500 rpm, then valvetrain stability may be an issue.

That is the reason that most chose a solid cam for your application.

I was running the 308 cam 20 years ago. With a 3250pd car I was running in the 10.20,that was on Buick Day,Labor day,in English Town,NJ.I did have 411 with a spool in the back, with steel heads and 30 inch slicks. If you are interested,I have a brand new 508 cam, slightly bigger the the 308,but I never used it,I went with with solid roller.By the way all my runs were duly noted in the northeast chapter,I still have that in my library. I had a Straightline cam that was bigger than both of these. It never ran any quicker than the 308S I had earlier, likely due to the 3.50 gears. 9.80s vs 9.70s with the 308S.
The Straightline cam has a bad lobe so I was going to go back to the 308S on my fresh build. Block cracked due to Mezerie pump operating intermittently.

I love the 608B in BQUICK but it's Stage 2. This motor is Stage 1 with small headers and mufflers. It needs a lot of help on the exhaust side...especially with squished pipes with I had the car set up lower. :Dou:

The Straightline cam had a good bit more exhaust duration to try to help it out.

    9.96 best with 4.10 gears in 3700 lb GS. (464, 12.5, Stage 2, 4200 conv, Wildcat, 1050 Dom)
10.12 best with 3.73 gears after 600 passes

This is for Jag, Bill. Even though I throttle stop it most of the time, I still want the power on the shelf. License? Can't pass physical since I'm mentally ill with car disease.....:Dou::grin:

Actually I'm thinking of test fitting a stock intake and qjet on it and putting stock hood on. Still should run low 10s with a less wild look.....
I wish someone would make a stock ALUMINUM intake that looks just like original. HINT, HINT (Mike TA)
