i'm still tryin to prove my car is an original 70 GS stage 1. The BB tranny is gone, the original engine is gone, the rear end was replaced with a chevelle 12 bolt. I can prove its a GS 455 and it was made in flint like all the stage 1 cars but so far i just found a small piece of paper under the passenger seat with interior info on it. i mean what the car really worth with out the drive train but i still would like to know either way that i do or don't own a real stage 1.

I feel your pain. Just remove everything that is not welded down and look for it. I did not find mine and there is nothing left to look into.

I found a part of something in the drivers side kick panel, which seem to be a favorite location. Rolled inside the left pillar is also a good spot to try. Above the gas tank is another. Of course, the rear seat springs is another. Under the carpet is another. Under the dash pad is another. And so on, and so on.

If you look through the previous ID Help post, there are a lot of locations to look.

    Good luck.

well the car is getting new interior in about a month and a half but i don't wanna wait that long, i may go get it out of the garage later and check under/behind the back seat.

i also heard that is someone put those stage emblem badges on and it was just a 455 that there would be differnet holes in the fender. i guess when i take my front end apart i'll see the the inside of the fender.

No need to look if there is no "H" in your VIN. I there is no "H" it is not a stage 1. If there is it could be but might not be. Then the search goes on for other evidence.

i'm to that point already, there is an H. I have the gs facts and figures book ( about 8x 5 inch book) and i've got as much info that i can from it without the build sheet. I know the guy the my uncle traded the rear end too but i don't know where that rear is. The engine and tranny are long gone.

    Bob,
Like Marco stated, there is independant documentation available. In the absence of paperwork, you have to go with one of 2 sources. 446370H, tells you it is a 1970 GS455 hardtop(44667-ragtop) made in Flint. Buick had records on microfiche. There were two rolls. Today, they are in two different places. The last 6 digits determine who you have to contact. 193560 and down, contact the Sloan Museum in Flint at 810-237-3450. They charge 25.00 to research a vin#. If your last 6 digits are above 193560, you need to contact Wayne Roberts at 5721 Livernois Rd., Troy, MI 48098, 248-879-2113. Wayne charges 50.00. Wayne, or the Sloan will send you documents detailing every option your car was built with. IMHO, it's worth it to know for sure.

well i'd like to search the car first before i drop some cash on that. i'd like to just pay the money find the info and help out the buick community at the same time but i have a few other cars to keep up with. 85 SS, 83 hurst olds, 83 bonneville and an 87 turbo t on the way and i only make $8.25

By all means, look everywhere you can Bob. I found the Body Production Order Final on top of the gas tank. It has a box for Ornamentation(Stage1 fender emblems). If there is an "L" in the box, that is enough to authenticate the car. Behind the dash, under the seat cushions front and rear, inside the doors, are all places to look. Good luck in your search.:TU:

    How about the Protect-o-plate?

Is it STILL in the glove box, because it will tell you the engine, trans, rear.....Maybe you've been looking in all the hard places, try an easy one:Smarty: :TU:

I guess it doesn't hurt to look everywhere, but I have only heard of the build sheet on top of the gas tank.:Do No:

    This is correct!!
Assuming you have your original fenders...
The 70 Stage 1 emblem has the pins/holes at the far ends, so its holes are different from "455" holes.

    Good luck Bob!

Please don't be disappointed if no paperwork is found. Many cars didn't get anything (including mine), and some cars got the wrong sheet (different VIN).

Happy hunting - all the places it can be found are mentioned above :bglasses:

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Here is the locations I have found fact build sheets.
    1. Behind driver's door panel
    2. Behind gas gage, A-pillar area
    3. Under carpet
    4. Under rear seat bottom cushion.
    5. Under front seat bottom cushion.

Gas tank sheet is different. I have a pic of each on the site
    below for reference.

Also, you may be able to contact your state DMV and conduct a title search. Usually a nominal fee involved, 10-25 cents per page. I did this on all of my GM cars and got info from the day the dealer sold the cars. Including other states. Some states only go
back 10 years others go back to orig dealer sale. Good Luck!
