I am in process of putting a 71 convertible back together. someone before me upgraded the distributor to a HEI model. The Cap is different and I have no idea where #1 is. can someone tell me where it is on the cap? I have a 71 shop manual but it only references the old point type. I think its left of the back side of where the tack connection is. any help would greatly be appreciated.
I'm not an expert, but if this gets you going for the time bwing... Does it really matter as long as you're in the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order?
It is at the same general location as the points distributor, and Marco is right, it makes no difference at all where #1 is, as long as you follow the firing order clockwise around the cap, and the rotor is set to fire #1 when the #1 piston is at TDC.
