Im wondering where your guy's vacuum advance canisters are pointing. In order for my 300's initial timing to be 10* or higher the canister must be pointing towards the hood latch. My dad says the car was always this way,but it doesnt seem right ot me at all.It has an aftermarket cam so Im wondering if we retarded it or advanced(cam) it if it would help bring the distributor back in range.I was also wondering about maybe moving the sparkplug wires one terminal clockwise to thier current posistion(which is right according to the book)Any input is appreciated.

It doesn't matter unless the fan is coming close to the vacuum line. You can move the plug wires as long as the wires are long enough. You can also pull the distributor and move it one tooth. Generally, the vacuum canister points to the right front corner of the car.

Philip, your idea of moving the plug wires one terminal each and rotating the distributor to better align the vac can makes perfect sense, just make sure you offset the wires in the correct direction. I'm thinking if the distributor needs to be turned clockwise to move the vac can away from the front of the engine, you wires will have to be shifted counterclockwise. Disclaimer is that my brain's still fuzzy from insufficient caffeine and I can't remember the last time I looked at a Buick 300.

Don't worry about camshaft timing as related to ignition timing...the two are not related as far as the distributor is concerned.
