When to run a stall converter?

X2. If you order the converter first, tell Jim you have 2.56 gears, but you intend to change to mid 3 series gears out back down the road. The converter will stall more with the 2.56. It will stall less with the 3 series gears. The more info you supply Jim, the better your results will be.

I can't believe his 2.56 rear is even a posi. Just doesn't seem like the norm....

The video is up I highly suggest listening through a good Bluetooth speaker or computer speakers a cell phone may not pick up the bog noises . and I want you to know something, before I went on this drive I tighten the air door another three-quarters of a turn. I'm way past Factory recommendations. If you watch the video about 2 minutes in there's an area where I say hey I'm about to turn onto my road. the bog is so bad on that launch. what you hear is the gas pedal slamming to the floor in the car doesn't react to it AT ALL I had to pull off the pedal and slam it to the floor and then I got a very similar burnout to what it did when it was a stock 2 Barrel. I absolutely am convinced I can get better performance out of this stock gear and converter. It may not be super impressive but it could be a hell of a lot better than what I got now

The zero to 100mph run is literally pedal to the metal

Watch video and tell me that launch about two minutes in isn't all carb. I will take the car back to stock jetting here in an hour or so. I'll go drive it because I was trying to identify my lean/rich condition off my spark plug color and they are white as a ghost but Larry said that may not mean anything. My zero to a hundred mile an hour run was weak as hell I think my carb is alot of the problem. Maybe I'm way too rich and I will go have the best test drive I've had yet. I have the stiffest accelerator pump spring and the biggest pump nozzle in it right now and maybe that was the key all along BUT with the stock jetting.

Yeah, I can hear it bogging. How does the exhaust smell? You might be able to tune some of it out. I just don't know. Jet changes without a AFR reading is flying blind. Does it nose over bad at times? The only other thing I would suggest is a check of fuel pressure. You'll have to tee in a hose and gauge and tape it to the windshield. Then see where the pressure is.

Doesn't even sound like the back barrels are opening, more like it's two bbl.
Is timing set/maxed per Larry's recommendations?

This car ran for 10 minutes in a sealed up tight shop and didn't smell at all LOL. That was with stock jetting. My best performance was actually with the richest secondary jetting and Richest primary jetting that My kit would allow. The four barrels are definitely opening, at least the air flap is. I can get it to open if I'm throttling it with my hand with the air cleaner off. I'll tell you this, 0 to 100mph in 30 seconds is exactly what I want to brag to my friends about LOL said no one ever. There is a very impressive range even with the current carb setup that I enjoy. when I was cruising in second gear and just punching it it was running nice. I have not tried to just hold it in second gear and Hammer it to a hundred. I dont want to eventually piss my neighbor's off too bad. I live in a small community and can get away with stuff but yeah I still need to be considerate.

You don't even have to drop big money on a converter. $200 is probably all you need to get a used one. Where roughly are you from? I bet I could find one on facebook marketplace for you in an hour tops.

Yes my ProForm actually came with some pretty light Springs but the kit I bought had one step lighter I put one of those and left one of my original Proform and I'm not a hundred percent where I'm all in at but it's close to 2600-2700 RPM. 14 initial with 36 total. If I remember right I've adjusted the vacuum advance so it doesn't add much more than 12 or so.

I ain't going cheap. Regardless of any of that stuff I know my carb is not right yet. After that extremely terrible bog it actually took off pretty nice with a decent little burnout. I'm going to freaking buy that 750 double pumper. I've literally read like 30 reviews where people bought a double pumper and solved all their problems. I'm okay with jetting changes and things like that for gosh sakes I've been doing it for two weeks on an Edelbrock I just want my efforts to be fruitful. I hate Edelbrock I have ever since I was a kid the 600 performer on my Firebird ran like crap too. I don't know why I was convinced this one would be different.

Sounds like you can rev the engine higher it sounded like it was going to keep on going. You can't hit 100 in 2nd gear? I know I could with the 256 gear. It took off then spun the tires. Leave the same pump shot and use a smaller shooter, That part could be too much gas at first but then the carb catches up with itself.

Yeah that 256 gear is killing you I think you should go up about 2* on the timing too there was no noticeable ping.

Is the carb a 650 just was not sure now

    Yeah it should be better

Loosen the spring back up to stock and do another video. Or tighten 1/4 after stock.

I’d think a cheap solution is better than no solution. Soon you’ll be out of money with no answers and you’ll wonder why. You’ve struggled a lot, and it sucks to see as a fellow enthusiast.

I have a friend with several 750s kicking around. I could set it up for you and ship it to you if you’d like a cheap potential fix. Even if it improves it just a little, you’ll know you’re going in the right direction

If you buy the Holley get a set of pump shooters 1 up extra and get a set of pump lift cams

Mart has his old 4150 all set up to run on a 350. But we have very different cars gear wise. And I really like what I'm reading about the quick fuel brawler and it's tunability. So I'm either going to buy a quick fuel or I'm going to Buy Marts.

It may not be exactly correct but should be close just get some pump cams they are cheap. these change delivery and how much shot.
