When is it time to run *better* shaft mounted rockers?

I'm kinda curious, does it have to do more with the profile of the cam or high rpm? at what point do people think are the limitations of the stock setup vs. upgraded setups, to all out race units?

Umm...when you start a Buick engine, you're running shaft mounted rockers. :Do No:

    Hey Michael........
    I know what you're asking.........
The Buicks use a single shaft on each head for OEM app's,So to compare to an Olds is apple's to orange's.
I think in your case it is a consideration of RPM parameters and cam size.

    Gary,

Thanks for the correction, I had my "olds" hat on when I initially wrote the post. I have edited it with a Buick slant.

The three basic setups I think of are:

    1. Stock/OEM shafts and rockers
    2. Aftermarket (TA) stronger shafts and OEM rockers
    3. Aftermarket, fully adjustable roller rocker assemblies (various manufacturers)

So would a better question be what are the limitations of 1, making it necessary to go to 2 or 3, and what are the limitations of 2, making it necessary to go to 3?
