On 72 gs, I know a 275/60/15 (which is a 28 inch tall) will fit on a 15x7 rim with a 4 inch backspace.Thats what I have now, But will a 295/65/15 (which is a 30 inch tire) fit on a 15x8 wheel with a 4.5 inch backspace?? and if it will is there a lot of trimming to be done to the quarter lip and moulding???
If you are going with a large tire and want to fill the wheel well then go to a 10" wide wheel. If you do some trimming of the wheel lip would can fit a 325/50/15 or a 12.5X28-15. Go with a 5 and 5/8" backspace if you are going to max out the tire width. If you want to go with a tire over 28" tall then stay with a 11" wide tire max. Otherwise a wider tire will rub on the side wheelwells due to the curve. No work required for my car with this wheel and tire combo fits perfectly. This was a bolt on deal. I have another set of the same wheels with a 30X11-15 drag radials (for the track) the same size as the 285/70/15 street tires. These are the rims I am using. 15x10 with 5.5" backspace: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-561-5162PS/ I like the 15X10 wheel with a 11.5" wide tire... Here are my 285/70-15 street tires:
