Whats your dream ?????

Pretty simple question yall. Whats your dream ? In relation to your cars that is ? Everyone wants to go fast, we agree on that. But whats "fast" to you ? Or maybe it's one of the big car shows around ?? If so how would that relate ? You wanna place ? win ? or would it be enough to enter/compete and be happy ?

Not sure if this seems stupid to some (and if it does I really don't care) but this is mine..........

I wanna compete at a national/divisional NHRA/IHRA event as a driver, in a car I built, and own. Pretty simple to some sure, but to a dad with kids, morgage and car payments and such, this is a big undertaking. I have worked on a alcohol dragster at a national event in Houston before. I thought I had died and had finally seen heaven. We lost in the first round but it didn't matter to me. Just the experience of being there, and not as a spectator, was it for me. At that time, lol. Now, on the other hand...... I have since I was like 9/10, knew I wanted to compete at one of these things as a driver. So now thats it for me. I AM gonna drive one of these events one of these days. In my car, first a divisional race, and then a national. Goal for now.......Super Street. 10.90's, through the mufflers, and hit the tree(and I will prolly use my signal at the end just for fun, lol). But first I have to finish the diet on the car and find a couple tenths, lol. Which I will this winter hopefully. In any case..........thats my dream in regards to my car for now. OH YEA, if your a SST car, and you see me in the other lane at a division race, just KNOW....................when I go to "that" level.................I WILL be looking forward to being a 1rst round duck, lmao. I am just there for the experience, and it will be enough for me.

Besides if you go to a race and expect to win, you aren't gonna have too much fun.

    Whats YOUR dream ??????????

Alcohol Dragsters are fun aren't they?:Brow: I've crewed for Ziggy Zivkovich and his t/a dragster in Denver, Topeka, Scribner, and Brainerd. All I can say is WOW! I love working with that car any chance I get.

My own personal dream is to have a following of customers whose cars ALL run well. I dosen't bother me in the least as to what brand or type of car you are talking about, I don't wan't to build any half-assed crap that is embarrasing to bring to the track or the show. I have a lot of "ideas" on what I'd like to build, we'll just have to see what happens in the future.

I hope your dream comes true Dave, that'd be cool. :beer

As for my dream, yeah, I'd have to win the lottery too. Then I'd build a time machine so I could send myself back to the sixties so I could experience grass roots Super Stock, Gassers and Fuel Altereds first hand, with backyard technology!

If the time machine isn't feasible, then I guess I'd have to stick with sleeper land yachts. :Dou:

I wish you the best, Dave!

I really love sslllllleeeeeeeeppppppppeeeeeerrrrrr cars. I've talked about building various kinds of cars, but I think a 4-door 75-79 Skylark would be way cool.

You could hide the roll bar pretty good with the B-post. Then you have the factory inner rear fenders made about 3" bigger, like Gary Kubish did with his car, to accomodate larger rear wheels. Just take factory steel wheels and have them made wider.

Top it off with poverty hub caps, stock interior. Then you have a 200R4 tranny and 4.11 rear backing up a good 600 HP engine. Like one of JW's new Stage 2 engine's. Of course, it would be painted all red to at least look like a stock engine, at least to the ricer crowd and the novice/unknowing.

Car would probably do mid-10's or so, cruise down the highway reasonably, and you could really take the whole family with you.:Brow:

That would be "one" of my dreams.

Besides the whole "win the lottery and build lots-o-cars" dream... I have a more attainable goal set for myself....

I'd like to get all our Buicks in decent presentable, driveable condition, and have the space to keep them all under roof while being able to drive any one of them whenever I want, without having to move 2 others to get one out of the garage or driveway.

I'm halfway there on the mechanical side. I can (and do) drive 3 of them regularly. (Sometimes all 3 in one day!) :Brow:
But the space issue is really going to be the tough one. Our property isn't even big enough to put up a large enough shop.

I have a 24x32 shop (TIGHT 3 car shop, but only 2 cars can be pulled in/out without having to slide one around on dollies) and a driveway thats 2 cars wide by 3 cars deep. And of course... cars in the driveway are in the way for getting cars out of the shop.

It seems I spend alot of time moving cars. It's like that little game we all had as kids. You know the one....
There's 9 spaces, and 8 squares and you can only shift one square at a time...... :Dou:

I dream about those supercharger things. Then I could use a small shot of nitrous to act as an intercooler. Then I could go for a slightly different cam profile to get better gas mileage. Then I should have my dream- a 10-20-30 car (capable of 10's in the 1/4mile, 20 MPG on the highway, daily driven 30 days a month).

On the other hand a jet car would be awesome.

    My dreams are pretty simple..

    Here is my dream garage..

Triple Black 70 Stage Convert.. Perfect resto..

Sitting next to the screaming low 8 second tube frame 70 Stage car .. maybe with one of those new centrifical superchargers?

Funny thing... I think I am going to get my hands on the triple black stage ragtop soon, although from the sounds of it, it's pretty rough.

And we already have the body for the tube chassis car..

Now I just need to win that lottery..

Other than that, my other dream was to make a living working on GS's... and that's happening now.. even if sometimes I mutter "be careful what you wish for" under my breath. It's alot of hard days, long weeks, successes and failures.. being dead honest and up front with customers is not the easiest way to make $$, trust me.. but I can do it no other way. I'm not smart enough to be able to lie to folks, and remember what I said, two months from now.. so we just tell the truth, it seems to work out pretty well.

Hard work is the common denominator here.. it's working for us, it will work for you too.

My car related dream? That's kinda hard to narrow down but I'll try

    1. To be able to finish my car without having to worry about a budget.

    2. I'm not sure why but to have my car featured in a magazine.

    3. Having that car feature lead to me being able to build cars for other people. Not a full time thing but maybe one open check book car a year and maybe one project car for myself (I would sell these but my goal here would be to save one cool car from the crusher per year.

    4. Finally to buy and restore a former drag car to run in the nostalgia drags. Maybe even a front engine digger!

This is being conservative mind you but I think I could be happy with this.

I only bet on "sure" things, otherwise it is a waste of Time AND Money! Everything that a person does is a "balance" of those 2 things. If you have a lot of Time then you aren't working enough to have enough Money. If you have a lot of Money, then you probably work too many HOURS, and don't have much Time for anything else.

In my opinion, a Lottery is a "Chance" that you will waste BOTH, Time AND Money, and won't get ahead (Odds are AGAINST you!). Lottery, Bank accounts, Credit Cards, Insurance: It's all a WASTE (unless you know how to use your money to make money, like THEY do:brow: :TU: )

You said it the best, Jim: "HARD WORK" is "ONE" solution, and I used to believe that, but I believe that "SMART WORK" is another! I was a "Certified Automotive Technician" for almost 8 years. My COMPUTER makes more money FOR ME now than I EVER did when I was working on cars. I'd rather be working on MY car than on "someone elses", and that's WHY I quit working as a "mechanic", and started my own businesses.

I am now LIVING my "dream"; I've always dreamed of "Freedom", and now I do what I want, when I want with my family! I have a wife and son (who will inherit my Buick collection one day:TU: )! My wife and I have a jet to fly wherever and whenever we want to go (it may be "faster than the Buick", but we still have to RENT a car when we LAND! ). I "OWN" all of my stuff (house, cars, gadgets and gizmos, all PAID for), and "OWE" nothing to ANYONE! Because I have "Learned" how credit cards work, and how banks use OUR money to make more for THEIR companies, I have become a "Financial Teacher", to show everyone else how to use their own money to "make more" for THEMSELVES.
That is my "other" business, besides the "internet" business that I have. Between the 2 (among others), I have BOTH; Time (to GO places and DO things) AND Money (to PAY for WHATEVER). I believe there is NO REASON for ANYONE not to have what they want! Work is the answer, it's just HOW you work to get what you want! Work HARD? :Dou: Or work SMART?:Brow: :Smarty: :TU: Keep DREAMING, though, eventually they DO come true!:bglasses: :Smarty: :TU:

Scott, you are a very lucky/ smart person. Now how about sharing some of that knowledge with your Buick brothers and sisters. When I was a kid my father always said "work with your brain not your back". The problem was he never said how to do this and it seems that I still haven't figured that out to this day.

I'm not a stupid person mind you, I graduated college in the top 10% of my class. Its just that to someone from a blue collar farming community with no experience in business or finance the old saying "make your money work for you" makes me feel like Alice lost in wonderland.

Hopefully I'll figure it out in the next ten years or so 'cause I can't keep doing what I'm doing when I'm in my late fifties.
