What's the correct clock for my 1970 GS?

I'm removing the tach from my 1970 GS455 dash and looking for a correct clock to get back to how my car was built. My GS is an early build (Sept '69). So, is the early clock any different from the late '70-72 ones? Here's my dash.

You will need an Early clock with the “tall” numbers and the pointy lens.

Anything from approximately the mid production of 1970 thru to the end of 1972 production would have the “short” numbers and the flat lens.

Thanks, Duane. So, are my current gauges (above) including the tach correct for early '70 build?

I only have my phone to look at them so I can’t tell.

If you put the early style gauges/clocks/tachs next to the later style they are easily identified.

You will have to do your homework on that one.

Here you go Ray, compare your current to these examples to determine which you have.

Do you (or anyone) have pics of early vs. late clock? I realize the stem would also have to be longer (& of course pointed lens) on a early clock but curious what the font difference is (if any).

Also (you may know this) it has to be a 24-hr. Rallye clock to be correct w/the gauges.

This is a picture of my dash gauges in my GS. AFAIK, they are original. My build date is 4th week of January 1970. The tachometer looks like it has the tall numbers. I have flat lenses.

Thanks, Dano. I had forgotten that the gauge option got the rallye clock instead of the standard clock. Super Thumbs Up Emoji(Tiny).jpg

It's certainly possible that in Jan. there could've been a mix of fonts. Do you have docs showing it originally came w/a tach?

Yes, your tall number tach looks like mine except my tach has only two screws visible on the dial while yours has three. That may mean one of them is the repro and one is original. Mine is probably the repro as I've seen a photo comparison of original vs repro tachs somewhere. Can't find it, though.

Looks like you have the late shorter number speedometer. Your Jan. build might be in that period where both types were used, maybe?

    Here's my dash:

Here is my dash with 24 hour clock. Build was 01D so 4th week of January. I am almost certain they are original gauges (date info written at home).
Flat lens and to me, looks like I have smaller font (looks fatter)

Yes, 3 screws, but that was the tach that was there in October of 1999 when I bought the car. Were reproductions available then?

My tach was updated with a better movement by Scott Moody awhile back. Don’t think he would have added another screw:D

Thanks for that pic. Yes, you have the smaller font later speedometer but not sure if the rallye clock had two fonts or just one.

Here's a pic of an original 1970 rallye clock so we can compare font size.

I'm talking with Scott about doing a quartz conversion with my clock once I find one. I'll ask him about the 3 screw vs the two screw when I talk with him next.

3 screws are OEM. 2 screws are repro

Thanks Scott, not that it really matters to me.:D The tachometer is working great BTW, very pleased.

I have about 6 clocks from early 70 to 72 and I can't tell any difference in the number size like whats done with the speedometer.
