I have the opportunity to buy a one owner, all original 1962 Special 4 door. It's White on Red with the Red Interior. V8 Automatic and Positraction. Some cool options, none of which I'm recalling at the moment. Any idea what this thing is worth? I know I want it, but I don't want to get raked over the coals. I'm not familiar with the pre-64 cars. If this is in the wrong place, please let me know! :TU: The motor is SUPER quiet, it drives fantastic. Needs tires and a real good cleaning. The original paint should shine up with just a few imperfections from it being used as a storage shelf in the garage. NO rust, no scale, PERFECT.
I see one rare option is the 15" wheels , standard was 13" .If its as clean as it looks fair price $4000-$4500 (not an expert on pricing). Cheaper would be to your benifit .
I did think those 15" wheels were odd on such a small car. I know it came from Northern PA and that the guys wife bought it new. It still has the small Quaker State oil change sticker from the 1960s, as well as all the factory stickers and markings-all in great condition. I made a somewhat low ball on the car, the deceased owner's brother is going to 'look up what its worth on the internet' ...who knows how that will go. I believe I'll still have 1st option if he deems it worth more. Money is tight with my wedding less than 6 months away. Thanks and keep the feedback coming
This car hits me about the 3000.-3500. range. Remind the seller/son/grandson, whoever that the only book that buys a car is a checkbook. I think it will difficult to establish a true market value for the car because of it's rarity. I'd just try to be fair but don't spend more than you think you could get out of it. Good luck, it's a sweet car. Allen
I'd lay $3k in cash in front of him. Then see what he says. $4k would be the top end. Nice looking car!
It's a nice looking car, but I see snow tires, thus would want to double check the underside for any rust or scaly surprises. They are a unibody construction. Upside - very low mileage, clean looking original car. Downside - 4 doors, but that's it for downside. I'd go around $3500. to $4000. as other suggest.:TU:
This is definitely a cool car!!!! I love all orig survivors,no matter what styles, doors, colors, etc, just cool having a piece of time capsul history. Sitting in my aunts garage is a 13k mile ,2dr 73 Pontiac lemans sport,350 4bbl,silver,red int,red landau top,all orig paint, etc!!!!! Given to my cousin (a girl) who expresses no interest in it.
I was over and under it. Not a hint of any rust, the original undercoating looks great. Even the traversly mounted muffler still has a cadnium finish on it! They used to live upstate, and with the worse winters I'd imagine the snow tires and factory posi were mandatory. I need to make this thing happen LOL A buddy just NOW emailed me another lead on another nice survivor: a white 65 Skylark Coupe When it rains it pours! They're looking for $6-7000, and mileage is somewhere around 69k. I'm pushing for this 62, so if anyone wants the info on this one it's from Maryland. PM me and I'll get you in touch.
I don't remember when I saw one of those last. The car looks good and is a true surviver with very low miles on the clock. The car is aleast 5k if it looks better then the pics, generally the sedans always bring low dollars in the car market but this one is rare. Vehicals in this area 'Philadelphia, Pennsylvania' are lower in price then in other markets. Goodluck to you on your find.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bob:dollar:
I got a LOT of PM's about the 65, and I've responded to all with the same thing: As soon as I get his OK to pass along a good contact phone number, I will! Glad to pass along a good find :TU: Also, if anyone is interested in this 62 let me know by PM. I'm going to pass on it since I have a line on another Buford that I've been looking for :Comp:
Quite honestly its a buyers market out there right now. What that car is worth and what he can get is the question. Its a nice rare piece but it is a 4 door and its not a sought after car. Start LOW you can always raise your offer but if you really want this car the $$ are not going to matter because you might not find another. I put my 22,000 mi Regal for sale for $3900.00 and never got a bite. If you want it -buy it !!
Why in the world would you make an offer? What if you offer more than the seller wanted? ou: Its the seller's car. He ought to know what he wants for it. They are nice cars, but very difficult to sell. They usually go very cheap. Press him for a price. If he still doesnt give you an answer, offer $1200. The worst that can happen is he says no right? And remember, you can always go up in your offe, its alot harder to go down with your price. If he says yes for 1200, you got a deal that you can probably resell for more when the time comes
I lowballed him since he wouldn't start me somewhere. I like the car, but don't LOVE it... I also need another vintage Buick like a hole in the head. He threw me a reasonable counter number back. If I was that into the car, it'd be a buy--but I'm passing. I just left a message with him to see if he is ok that I give his number and counter offer out.
