Got my block and crank back from the shop after girdle installation and noticed the crank was clunking back and forth in the block. I dont have a mike so I tried to see what feeler gauge I could get in the thrust. I could get .007 in there but not .008. I never noticed a crank have that much end play, but if it's ok to use I dont mind...Fish
Fish, That's right in the specification range of .003 to .009, so I'd think it should be OK. Last weekend I set the crank into the motor I'm building, lightly snugged up the main caps, rocked the crank fore and aft to seat the thrust bearing, torqued the caps, and measured the endplay with a dial indicator. Came out .006, again, right in the range.
end play fish thats fine, but make sure you leave that main a little loose and pry it back and with a brass hammer hit the crank (on the flexplate mounting surface) so you will be sure the thrust is set an the bearing halfs will line up. then you can torque it down. later john
Fish, Stop your worrying.... Throw that thing together and make a few nitrous passes, you'll find all your mistakes.
