So I'm wondering what would you say, if your "better half" put a 1 - 1 1/2 inch scratch down to bear metal on your "baby".
It happened while moving a toolbox in the garage.

You could always put a 1.5" scratch in his rear!! Accidentally of course....wouldn't want to be vindictive!!:Brow:

    On a lighter note...milk it for all it's worth!!

My dad accidentally did the same thing years ago. What can you do? Not much, and getting mad doesn't fix the scratch

Dana probably feels awful about it

Unfortunatetly, stuff like this happens. I have been on both sides of occurances like this. Try to put yourself in the other persons shoes. Of course, that still dosen't fix the damage.

Well, I did not get upset with him, I did scream in my head when I saw it:shock: :jd: , but it's done and over. Ah yes, all the more reason to push up the repaint.
Gee I wonder what else I can get him to do for me to "make up" for it:Brow:

    Have a good weekend all.

    Beth,
First thought I had was, "well, that decides the repaint!" funny part is that is the 1/4 panel that I spent the most time on, it had taken a minor hit and took lots of time sanding with the long board to get right....at least it's just a scratch and not a dent!

I don't know about you guys, but I think telling her would be worse than the actual damage that I did.I am sure that he feels really upset by it.I agree,at least its not a dent. Now is the time to get that yard work, basement cleaned, etc though.I bet you wont even get a hard time about it.Guilt will take over.  After my ex wife wrecked my 86 Century GS,I was cleaning it up one day and decided to back it up the driveway with the door open.I wasn't looking too hard and sunk the corner into a stump and peeled the door up.This was less than a week after we got it back.Needless to say all of the bitching I did was amply returned.

UMMMMM! Uh-Oh better get maaco? Take that back they do horrible work. Not much you can do, but pray you can find some touch up paint and buff that puppy out. The scratches on clear will go away, but the area that is down to the metal, is hard to forgive. I say your signifigant other owes you big time!:ball:

It was 1993... I'd been out of high school 3 years and felt comfortable enough in my job that I made the plunge and ordered a brand spankin' new GMC 4x4 truck.
I'd had it for about 2 weeks when a co-worker asked if I'd bring it out to his house to help move a small pile of fire wood from the back of his property to his house.
    I reluctantly agreed.

He dropped a huge log while trying to heave it over the side of my bed, and it landed right ON the side of my bed.
    Nice big dent. :ball:

    His first words:
    "Ohhh.... a dingy wingy"
I remember it like it was yesterday.
    :Dou:

Needless to say.... when I sold the truck a few years later... the dent was still there... along with a few other "bumps and bruises"

That was the last brand new vehicle I've had, or will ever have. Just not worth the money.

My four year old and two year old have "bumped" my car on more than one occasion. That's why I won't get it repainted with a nice paint job.

I'll wait until they're a little older, like 30 or so.

Well, there is no clear on Beth's wagon, I painted it with Dupont Centurai single stage, the good news is that if she is able to get a bit of Sandalwood mixed up it should match ok since the paint is only 4 years old

Really? a single stage car paint. they really do make anything. I paint as a subcontractor for the army, so I see alot of paint. If you had access to a HVLP paint spayer, touch up would take as few as ten minutes. The HVLP is a portable cup gun spayer made specifically for chemical based paints. And with practice you can paint your car yourself. I use mine for high temp paints, great for engine parts, as a matter of fact I paid 130$ bucks for mine in a pawn shop, they sell for a grand in paint shops. Just something I threw out there for thought, its the only way to touch up without bristle marks, just buff it out it will be fine. But hey we all cant have PERFECT rides, I have been in a battle with rust and dings for years with my 65 Riviera. Like a scout be prepared!!

    What, No clear

Well I bought some touch up paint, the closest color I could find, has more yellow in it :Dou: but it's fine for now, the bare metal is covered & since we have bumped up the repaint (gee I wonder why he gave me the ok on that so fast?) I'm fine with it.
Now, I need all your opinions  . We are thinking about doing a 3 stage
    Base coat- Sandlewood
    2nd coat - Sandlewood/Pearl
    3rd coat- Clear
What do ya think? :Do No:

    Beth

Bad Kurt, bad, evil, wicked Kurt, no clear, no wonder it scratched so easy :Brow:
    Dana said that not me.
    BTW Kurt,
    thanks :TU:

Sounds like a good plan for paint, personally I would go with one coat of the sandalwood/pearl coat and finish it off with 2 coats of clear. The clear topcoat is what gives it the shine and with two coats it adds that extra protective armor for such mishaps as scratches scrapes. Although the clear is the most expensive, at 120-200$ per gallon (only sold in gallon sizes) it is the most important!! The more clear the more resilient it will be. Trust me, it is my profession. Or you could simply add a forth stage in the process, another coat of clear. But it will turn out fine with your plan, either way it is simply my take on it. The paint job on my Riviera is over 13 years old and thanks to 3 clear coats it still shines like new. Just don't neglect to wax it at least twice a year!! If you prep it yourself, don't forget the Rustoleum primer around key areas of your ride, or wherever you had trouble with rust in the past, it will help it from bleeding through and returning to haunt you. If someone is painting it for you, I recommend YOU remove any emblems yourself. To avoid having certain hard to find emblems damaged or oversprayed by carelessness. Good Luck. Hope I could help!!:Dou:

Call your insurance company for the estimate (I hope you have FULL COVERAGE. That's WHY you PAY for INSURANCE: "IF" something happens to your car, then THEY will PAY for the REPAIR!)

If you DON'T claim it on your insurance, then WHY are you PAYING for INSURANCE, again?:Do No:

I'm going through the same thing RIGHT NOW! Someone in my neighborhood sideswiped MY CAR that was in MY YARD, and damaged my Driver's Door. I'm getting the door REPLACED and REPAINTED at THEIR expense. Get what YOU PAY FOR! YOU DESERVE IT!:Smarty:
