In my 68 Chassis manual, it shows a Heavy Duty 3spd manual trans for the floor shift 3spd GS350's, and the GS400 and Wildcat. Column shift 3spd GS350's got a std duty 3spd manual trans. Don't know about it being a Ford unit though. Cover in the pic has a "GM" and GM part #'s cast in it.
Group 4.003 Since we know the 67 GS 3 speed was a Ford trans, a 68 could be too. At some point , I think by 70, GM went to a cast iron Muncie.
A friend has a completely original '69 442 that has a factory Ford built top loader 3 spd trans. It has a Hurst floor shifter.
The std duty 3spd (col.shift) manual trans in my 68 parts book does not appear to be a top loader, but the HD 3spd (flr shft) for 65-68 does appear to be a top loader. Of course, the descriptions don't say a thing either way.
The service manuals back this data up. My 69 GS 350 is a floor shift 3-speed; its got the ##s matching trannie (3-speed toploader) I had it rebuilt and the input shaft is special (GM 10 spline and specific length) and the output spline is 28 teeth- this is appearantly hard to find yoke as well.
Are you looking for one? I have a Dearborn/Ford toploader unit out of a 69 Pontiac. I just put one on Ebay today: I tried to post the link, but I am too new on this board, I guess. However, it is item # 320207107522. Good luck! Bill Jacobs
Its Local to me! Thanks I'll be watchin' :Brow: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320207107522&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D320207107522%26fvi%3D1 numbers for matching on the Buick are on the front flange, passenger side; top. If you check out the service manual, the "figure" explaining this is so small I had to get a MICROscope to read it!
That sounds like a good deal for both of us. I'll work with you on this as far as storage and possibly delivery, etc. Are you set for a shifter? I have the original Hurst unit that came in the car. I needed the receiver and lever from it for my resto, but somewhere in the garage I have a receiver to fit it that should be correct for your car. I also have a round bar lever stamped 4177 at the base. I don't know what the lever fits, but you are welcome to take a look at the shifter and parts to see if they would help you out. Good luck! Bill
Thanks Bill, I have talked to Pete Serio about the shifter base, luckily the levers are on the trannie. I may need the shifter base still. Hope to see y'all  (Florence Y'all)
Ted: Thanks for buying my trans. It will be good to have a few extra bucks for my resto as well as having some extra space. Knowing someone will get some use is a nice bonus! Bill
