Hello, A friend has a 1981 Buick station wagon...a real big boat...with a V8 and auto trans that he said I can have for free (he has no title to car). He said the motor has a lot of power...so I looked at it (at night) and it looked like a big block motor (in width) but has exhaust manifolds like a typical SBC. I think the distributor is in the rear like a chevy but not sure as it was dark. I am a chevy man but have a lot of respect for the earlier small block and big block olds/Buicks. Does anyone know what size motor this is? It looks wider than my sbc 400 on top...... "free" is a good price if this would be a good strong motor..any advise or comments? Marty G.
Sounds like an olds 307...if you have a filler neck for the oil in front of the block, and if you look at the water neck, there should be an overflow neck to the waterpump its and olds 307. Im pretty sure about that. Let me know what you come up with :TU: Larry
If you find out it's an Olds 307 I might have a lead on a dual-quad intake for it. I don't know that it would improve performance but sure would add to the 'street-rod' image.
beaten this dog.... thanks gentlemen, I plan on looking at the motor again this weekend, it's down South of me about a 2 hour drive but have to go that way anyways...will post what it is later! I am interested in that dual quad intake manifold..please email me with a price and shipping or your zip code and the weight. thanks again guys Marty
Hey Marty, If you're looking for a BBB, a friend of mine told me he knows of somone with a 430 for sale. I don't know the seller, but my friend says that he was told it's probably got about 425 horse. "Supposedly" it's around $500, but I can't guarantee anything since I don't know the seller and the price came to me 2nd hand. I'm not sure where in WA that it is, but my friend is in the Tacoma area.
