What should I look for?

    Ok. I'm going to replace my 78 V-5 With a 350. Are there sertain year's I should look for and avoid? Being it's a 78 I don't think I need to worry about EPA crap.( cat-coverter etc...) I what to find one that I can add some performance to. 300+ Hp :3gears: is what I would like to acheave. Any And all help would be great. Thank's

    not a huge difference between years but a slightly higher deck
    on newer engines, slightly larger exhaust valves and cap screw rods
    there is a post from mike at AM&P for a 350 build up they just did
    a 363 hp engine build pump gas engine

    If you want to simmple drop in a Buick 350 then a 70 is the best year. The 68+69 have an inferior oiling system for the valvetrain but can be converted to the 70-80 style. The 71 and later motors have progressively lower compression and power output. As stated above if building a high hp motor from scratch then use the 73 and later connecting rods which are stronger.
