Good evening everyone. I brought my 72' Lesabre 4 door custom, with 130,000 miles on it, and she rides better than, a new Cadillac lol. She floats like a butter fly, cruising or speeding lol. I first notice she pulls a little to the right, when I let go off the wheel. You really don't feel it with your hand on steering wheel. Tire pressure is good, front suspension tight!. I also notice that the rear shocks have a air valve, when you open the truck at both sides, a long the bottom inside lip. Do all Lesabre's have air shocks? and if so, what brand and model#. Thank you. P.S, She sits low, the way I like it!!:beer
Our suspension pretty much matches up with all B bodies, including Caprices all the way through early 90's. You can use the police/taxi shocks for pretty much any year Caprice for the fronts, I have Monroe on the 225. I used to have air shocks on the back, but I eventually replaced them with standard Monroe's and a set of cargo springs.
Bad ones, the original Delco "pleasurizers". All the pleasure has left them too. At least here in Canada, - it's whatever I can get to fit.
I got RCD Bilsteins for the Riv. I think RCD contracted with Bilstein to make a run of gas shocks for older cars that aren't the bright yellow color. I think I got mine from PST Suspension. They make them for the big cars too.
Yeah, because they're 50 years old, and are still as the factory installed them. After 50 years, they're getting a bit weak. I'm going to be looking to import some, so I'm watching this thread.
Maybe the previous owner purchased new one's. Because when you bounce the car one time no extra bounces lol, and it rides excellent over pot holes here!
I would first think about what kind of ride you are going for. A nice smooth lazy boy feel or more of a hard sports car kind of ride. I prefer my suspension to a little 'tighter' then stock so I don't have quite so much sway and bounce, but not so much it effects the road feel of the car. A nice moderate set of low price 'performance' shocks is what I will be looking for when ready to tighten down my suspension on my 225.
Mine front originals came apart when I removed them from the car.. Replaced them with Monroe improved standard, and the back ones with Monroe airshocks.. Bad choice at the back, because I imported them myself (Live in Denmark) and the right shock leaks, causing the car to defloat in a day.. With the back pumped up, the car rides good.. It's a Electra 65' If I had to choose today, get some quality shocks all round, no air..
