it looks great - if you like green

the front bumper is nice and straight - many have the end "ears" hanging down from the front point of the bumper having hit something. the back bumper looks to have taken a minor whack...

... it also "LOOKS" good around the back/bottom of the vinyl top - a typical trouble area for cars with vinyl. You really need to press on these areas and feel/listen for crunchies - the sound of rust under there.

Given it is in good running /driving condition, I'd say it is worth 5-7K in today's market ... maybe a bit more b/c it has AC

I'd also like to see a few pics of the under side. other areas to check are the back/bottom of the front fenders as well as around the rear wheels, especially back/bottoms

I'd think towards the low end of Alan's figures. It's a 69, it's a Skylark, and it's green. I'd say 4-6k. Of course, we're just tossing figures out there, a lot of detail is missing, and it could need a lot of work if original, as you think it might be.

$5k IMO. I have seen some low mileage originals like that bring a little more but not in this economy.

I am the ultimate skeptic.... I guess. My parents had a 72 skylark that looked outstanding with 150k on it, I just don't believe these "low mileage" originals without documentation. I have a 94 mustang cobra with roughly 35k on the clock...this car is never driven, has not been licensed in 5 years etc...and its only 16 years old, I am agreeing that these cars do exist.. it is possible that a car can be driven less than 40 miles per week it's entire life....

I would argue that most of these cars like my parents, were waxed, garaged kept, and well maintained 150K+ cars.

    Just a thought,

    Mike

I could see your skepticism, especially with all the crooks out there. The easiest way to tell for me is that I always look at the gas and break pedals. Those never lie.
Besides, I got my Lark out of an old ladies garage, same color, same condition, it only had 35k on the od and there was even a 15 year old bag of groceries still in the trunk. I think she drove it in the garage one day, and thats all she wrote. The cambells soup was a little hard to swallow, but it reminded me of a fine wine.:beer

Thanks Tom - thats my "New" 68 SportWagon 400 ... its got a whopping 29,xxx miles on it bought from the original owner and before last summer, hadn't been out of the garage since 1983.

The Pedals are a good indication, but can be changed ... as most things can. Other less obvious signs of "little use" are the clicky-ness of the turn signal switch (should be a nice crisp click into position), play in the drivers inside door handle ... even how the door lock mechanism feels from the outside with the key. Dash knobs and switches should look and feel new-ish as well.

Just look at stuff that you would use during most every drive ...

I think that the car you posted would be a smart buy for under 7K if it is as nice as it appears

I have not seen and driven this car just yet.

Ive been around cars long enough to be fairly sure I wont get burned on the mileage issue.

My goal is to have a clean Skylark in my driveway by spring.

Its a good thing Im not trying to buy a Chevelle or Nova. The world thinks these rust bombs are worth a small fortune.

having a 68,and selling parts for 68/69 my opinion is.That 69 looks like a beauty,if the core support is not rotted on the battery side, and underneath is rot free, also the inside of the trunk is clean, check the lower half front/rear qrts, 350 tranny or 2 speed ? the interior looks nice also,if all is nice and the motor is quiet running then around mass its a 9k car.go get her take her home :TU:

my opinion is that miles and original paint is only relevant when comparing value for high-end, big dollar collector cars. E.g. a low mile, all original Stage car is worth more than a high mile, repainted car. A prized, rare car closer in condition to when it rollled out of Flint makes it more valuable compared to a similar car.

But for cars that aren't collectible, and are just old cars like this Skylark, originality barely matters. In fact, having a new paint job would make it worth more, as would a new stereo, a 455 and buckets.
