I sold a 1970 GS 350 a few weeks ago and the man brought to my attention that the vin # does not show that the car I have is a GS so I whent to marco's web page and folowed the links to vin# decoding and this is what I got note that a 1970 GS 350 and 1970 Skylark are the same code my first part of the vin is 43437H and I would like to know how to prove it is a real GS the man that bought it is not backing out he just is concerned like me about clones !!! please let me know thanks Vehicle Identification Plates 1965-1971 Models 1st Digit - Division 4 = Buick 2nd and 3rd Digits - Series 33 = Special V6 (1965-67) 33 = Deluxe L6 (1968-69) 33 = Skylark L6 (1970-71) 34 = Special V8 (1965-67) 34 = Special Deluxe V8 (1968-69) 34 = GS350 (1968-70) 34 = GS (1971) 34 = Skylark V8 (1970-71) 34 = Sportwagon V8 (1970-71) 35 = Special Deluxe V6 (1965-67) 35 = Skylark V6 (1968-69) 35 = Skylark 350 (1970-71) 36 = Special Deluxe V8 (1965-67) 36 = Skylark V8 (1968-69) 41 = Sportwagon V6 (1965) 42 = Sportwagon V8 (1965) 43 = Skylark V6 (1965-67) 44 = Skylark V8 (1965-67) 44 = Skylark Custom (1968-71) 44 = Sportwagon V8 (1967-69) 46 = Skylark Gran Sport (1964-66) 46 = GS400 (1967-69) 46 = GS455 (1970) 48 = Sportwagon Custom V8 (1967-69) 4th and 5th Digits - Body Code 07 = 2 Door Post Coupe 17 = 2 Door Hardtop Coupe 27 = 2 Door Post Coupe 35 = 4 Door Station Wagon 36 = 4 Door Station Wagon 37 = 2 Door Hardtop Coupe 39 = 4 Door Hardtop Sedan 55 = 4 Door Sportwagon 56 = 4 Door Sportwagon Custom 65 = 4 Door Sportwagon 66 = 4 Door Sportwagon Custom 67 = 2 Door Convertible 69 = 4 Door Sedan 6th Digit - Model Year 5 = 1965 6 = 1966 7 = 1967 8 = 1968 9 = 1969 0 = 1970 1 = 1971 7th Digit - Assembly Plant Code B = Baltimore, MD C = South Gate, CA D = Atlanta, GA G = Framingham, MA H = Flint, MI I = Oshawa, Ontario (Canada) K = Kansas City, MO V = Bloomfield, IL X = Kansas City, KS Y = Wilmington, DE Z = Fremont, CA Last 6 Digits - Production Number
It's wrong. 33 = 70-71 Skylark 34 = 65-67 Special V8 including 67 GS340, 68-70 GS350, 68-69 Special Deluxe wagon, 70-71 Sportwagon, 71 GS
yes a big mess:laugh: I looked in the year one catalog. I'm pretty sure the GS350 in 1970 has its own VIN designation - and the 71 GS does not. You can only distinguish a GS from a Skylark.... I'll try to dig up a trhead with more info!
And this thread appears to have the correct listing of VIN ID numbers: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30280&highlight=GS350+VIN

Ryan, When typing a long list like that, you can get some things wrong. We all depend on info given to us by books, internet or maybe the Sloan museum. I found the info I gave you in 3 different books from different publishers, what are the ods they all typed it wrong? As I asked you before: Do you want scans from two of the books to show to the person that bought the car? Or make a deal with him: Ask the Sloan museum to decode the VIN, if it's a true GS the buyer pays for the document, if it's not a true GS all costs are for you.
The 70 GS350 had its own VIN designation: 434370H Just like Erik pointed out - I think you're in the clear...it's a real GS :bglasses: :TU:
I found the page with the error in it: http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:lxUwVBymi7gJ:user.dtcc.edu/~rod/buick/buickvin.html
