In the mid 70's, the "S" sub-series meant the car came with less standard equipment than the non-"S" series. It was missing things like standard remote control mirrors and maybe some chrome trim. It also carried a lower base price, which was the idea to begin with.

Funny thing was, they advertised it as an economy model, but deleted the gas saving radial tires and sold it with bias ply instead. Odd...
The S/R I believe was the sport model, came with buckets, heavy duty sway bars (R41?), center console.
We had one while I was growing up. Buckets, sport steering wheel;,floor shift. The 350 4V engine (we had) was probably optional - definitely potent enough in 1976 - very torquey. Build quality and reliability was dubious. uzzled:
