I see that from www.kanter.com you can get 1 1/8'' sway bar for the front, anyone know if it is worth the $110???
Ask Yardley, he has a '69 and he put a sawy bar in his Riv. Check out his page:It's Pretty Cool :bglasses:
Those are worth their weight in gold......the difference in handling is incredible! Only problem is make sure the width isn't too narrow. I had to send mine back to be widened b/c the ends were rubbing on the frame. Also, putting in the links is tricky, they are tight but once you get them started they go in OK. I used a bottle jack under the bolts to push them up tight first. Then I had to use a very long pry bar to pull the sway bar down in order to get the nuts started. Once in place, that sway bar will hold the turns very well. :bglasses:
I only put the front one on mine. I think I would have put the rear one on if I beat on my car, but I don't. Without the rear one, I get a lot of wheel hop around corners when the rear tires break loose. :Brow: According to Yards his doesn't do that anymore with the rear sway bar. From what I understand, the kit they give you puts it too low to the ground. Yardley put his on so it's higher and boxed his lower control arms......if you do a thread search perhaps you can find his description of what he did. :bglasses:
Joe, I installed a rear bar on my '64 Riv. 30+ yrs. ago. I also didn't like how low the bar hung. Instaed of attaching it to the bottom of the lower control arms I attached it to the top under the springs. It does fit. Yards set-up is diff. than mine. The diff. set-up is diff. on a '69. I have a '66 Riv. rear at my shop it appears to be the same as my '64. Really makes a huge diff. in the way the car handles over just the front bar. Tom T.
I can't figure out how you did that.......the '66-'70 rear axles are all the same, and I can't see how you could put a sway bar on the top side without it interfering with the springs? I am not familiar with the '63-'65's though. o No:
The '63-'65 Rivs. had the rear springs attached & mounted to the lower control arms, probably 8-10 inches forward of the rear diff. I think I recall the '66 & up had the springs on the rear housing. That is how I was able to get away with it. Look in a couple shop manuals to confirm this. And YES!!!! The Bars are definately WORTH IT!!!!!! in my opinion. Tom T.
