What do I need to start the car ?

There are no wire harnesses currently in car.
While installing the engine, the engine harness will be installed complete up to the fuse block.
Now if I grab my old, inside fuse block and harness, plug a key switch into the appropriate plug.
Can I now start the car by turning key? With just the harnesses plugged together laying there?

Probably need to make sure the neutral safety switch is either on or off depending on it's requirments.

    Any reason this won't work?

It would be much easier to power up the harness directly at the block. 12v to the distributor wire and then 12 volts to the fat purple wire will make it crank. If its a factory harness the distributor wire will be the resistor wire that is fabric coated. It'll be easy to spot on the plug.

Yes, I most certainly can hot wire the car and start it that way, however, it may be awhile before this car hits the road. It's a lot easier to twist a key than crawl under the engine and clip onto the solenoid terminals. I could even drive it over to be aligned and exhaust across the street.

You misunderstood my post. You can access all the necessary wires from that block. No need to crawl under the car, just jump the wires there. It would take all of a minute. I've done it several times..

Why not just plug it into the firewall? Is the inside plug not installed?

Joe, you are right, I did mis-understand you. Yeah, I reckon just jumpering at the block that plugs into the fuse box would certainly do it all for me. Thanks for correcting me.

Bill, The inside harnesss isn't installed which is why I thought I could just pull it out of a box, plug it all in and rock and roll.
