On the driver's side, what color should the heat shield be? I believe it should be gray.I'm thinking about having it JetHot coated, like my exhaust manifolds. Any ideas? Thanks guys!
I think natural Or maybe one of the coatings. o No: I think jet hot is the way to go. :TU: I remember painting mine flat black with hi temp paint a few years back, but I'm not going to change it (yet). :error:
So,were they originally black? If so,I have to send it out to JetHot to coat it. What do you think, Duane?
Carl, They are gray like Jim said. I have an original and it still has the gray phosphate coating on it. It you painted it like the exhaust manifolds, it would be fine. Duane
Thanks Duane. I kind of thought they were gray-I didn't think it would look right if it was black. uzzled: I'll send the shield to JetHot to get it coated gray.
The original finish on the RH motor mount heat shield and LH exaust manifold shield from what I can tell appears to be galvanized. A cast iron gray would be too dark. Tim
Tim, The RH motor mount heat shield was galvanized, but the LH exhaust manifold shield was definately a gray phosphate coating. Regarding the exhaust manifold shield, I have both an NOS and a nice used California piece, and both have this plating. Again,if you painted it like the exhaust manifolds, it would be fine. Duane
Hi Duane, I had sold Carl a good used RH motor mount shield awhile back and remember it still having some of the galvanized coating on it. It's been a long time since I have looked at any old original LH heat shields, and I was assuming a little too much by thinking it would have the same coating ou: . I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. As long as we are on this subject, is the heat stove also gray phosphate ? Thanks, Tim
Tim, If you are talking about the piece that mounts to the exhaust manifold for the tube then yes, I think they have the same plating as the manifold cover. Duane
