  3. The "Group Buy" for the 1967-68 Deluxe Steering wheel recasting is now officially "Open". Now is the time to start sending in the wheels. The latest date that the wheels must be received by Kochs is 31 March 2025 The cost for each wheel is $750. The only "up front cost" is your shipping the wheel. If you send in more than one wheel, each additional wheel will cost $700. Shipping and insurance to Kochs and return shipping will be extra. what caused this - 2004R

    As far as I know, the output shaft is centered by the yoke, so it is loose w/o. Have no opinion on the input shaft, but isn't the input shaft one of the things you want to get billet when using the 2004R behind a BBB.

    Several things, but indicative of off center crank to input shaft, and/or driveshaft and output shaft.

    If thrust angle is off from engine to transmission in up/down or side to side (think, pitch/yaw), or rear end is not 90 to drive line .

    Think T, where the rear axel is the top of the T and the engine/trans/drive shaft are the bottom of the T and the top and bottom are not a 90 degree intersect.

    The result is bushings getting worn to one point in the 360 degrees. (In your case, at the right, 90 degrees on the output shaft bushing.

    Unlikely torque (in the manner your are suggesting) as it is on the output side. More like alignment and driveshaft angle is bad, and more likely from skewed driveline (transmission to rear pinion).

    Pinion angles are a result of offset side to side as well as up and down. (actually, in all 360 degrees of axis, but most concern is in the two mentioned)

    Thats normal for a 2004r output shaft. It's floppy until the yoke is installed.

    For the input I'd guess too much line pressure at idle. Did it engage into forward/reverse hard?

    Correct, the output is loose until the yoke is installed.

    On the input side, that is the stator support with the damaged teeth. It is common for them to show that wear.

    Typically the stock stator support is replaced with a new, hardened spline unit. Especially when intended for heavy duty use.

    Ah - thanks! Output shaft was OK. Stator support was damaged. This was on the core that I traded in for the new one with hardened parts. I had bought the 2004R with the intention of running it - until I thought better about it and made it a core!

    The stator splines looked just like mine when I had my 2004R rebuilt in my GN, I heard the same thing about hardened shafts and such.
