What Are Public Groups?

Is v8Buick using the Public Groups option? Whenever I look at a user profile, I see the section "Group Memberships" and the message "member is not a member of any public groups"

It would be nice to find an easy way to communicate to a specific group of people by sending a message to the members of a group. For example, if there were a "South Florida Members" Group, I could easily send a message about a local event that doesn't warrant a post in the Bench or other forum. The members on the list would be maintained automatically by the member's actively joining the Group.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks!

I see what you are saying but what you are wanting would be a ton of work and a nightmare for the folks that make this run.
Think about the number of groups.
We have 50 states and you just halved one of them so with that pattern we are at 100 groups by state.
Others will want to be able to pull together a more regional group like say a Northwest one for Washington and Oregon guys might be nice.
Next we would have by year, type, engine size of cars.

Saving a little work getting information out could be enough work to crash the server!!

Might just try and get a mailing list together. Post a thread asking who lives in the area that you are interested in, and ask them to post to the thread but send you a PM if they would like to be on the list to get an email notice if there is an event.

Thanks for the input guys. I was hoping that a moderator would chime in as to whether a decision was made after consideration. I have seen Public Groups on other sites using vbulletin, and thought it would be useful here.

I just finished sending pm's to the members that I know live in my area. This system only lets you pm to five users at a time. So, I had to break up the list into smaller groups and copy and paste my message into multiple pm's.

I will look into the Facebook idea, but I rarely use it.

Have you looked at using the Buddy List function? Maybe that could be of use to you.

    Thanks Dave,

Yep, I am employing the Buddy List, but it has its limits. I'll contact Jim - thanks for the tip.

    Best Wishes,
