Wet-Sump External Oil System, Why Not?

Surely someone has long ago developed this, so tell me who offers it?: a shaft driven billet oil pump that mounts past the stock gear cavity on a BBB, and feeds inlet oil thru an external braided line from a pan mounted static or swivel pickup. This would work killer, as long as the cam/distributor gears could stand the load. I dreamed of this years ago, and still can't make it happen myself, but I think it can be (has been?) done. The BB MoPars have had this technology since the early/mid 60's from Milodon and other companies, and they have a better oiling system than the BBB already. Just last year, Indy Cylinder Heads came out with a system EXACTLY like what I'm talking about for AMC applications. Look on Indy's web site for a pic. The AMC's have the same kind of pump, and I freaked when I saw what I had envisioned for the BBB applied to a similar timing cover. There has to be a reason(s) why this has not been tried, or is not being marketed if available! It doesn't LOOK STOCK, which I understand is the focus of many GS guys, but full-race and chassis cars would have no excuse!!! RB:TU:

Have installed a Peterson Vac/Oil Pump. Bought the complete system with oil pan, valve covers fittings filter. All from Steve Reynolds who is on this Board. He had the same system on his 70 GS which also had the inner fenderwells and everything fits. The system is not cheap, but who ever said building a hi horsepower Buick is..

Mike at AMP in Kentucky offers a billet piece that bolts to the stock timing cover oil pump. It replaces the stock filter housing/pump cover and reroutes the oil for less restriction and more efficiency. Some of the more race oriented setups use the Pederson (sp?) external pump in varying stages.

This sounds like what I'm talking about. Do you have contact info or a link? I will search "AMP" and see what pops up. The other systems above are killer, race-only belt drive units, what is needed for us "tweeners" with more than 500hp but less than 750hp is a SHAFT drive pump in the stock location with a remote mounted oil filter to keep the overall length down. A gerotor pump of not too great a length would kill even the HV spur gears' capacity, IMO. Look at the INDY AMC kit they offer and marvel at the simplicity. Maybe Mike@AMP already has it covered!!! I'm gonna look into it!!! :TU: :TU: :TU: RB

Many thanks! This is EXACTLY what I had in mind (back in 1987-88),building only 400+ hp BBB's for my street rides. Now with HP over 500, approaching 600 on the next one (hopefully), I don't want a belt drive anything, but feel the stock pump system with the usual mods is still iffy. I knew someone could do it, I just hope it is the cure I hoped it would be!!!:TU::TU::TU: RB
