i have a 1967 riviera. it rained the last couple of days, and i noticed that the whole left side of the carpet (under drivers seat and left rear passenger side) was SOAKED!! i checked the ceiling and there were no leaks, i also checked the whole right side of the carpet and that side is completely dry. does anyone know what or where the water is seeping through?

Cowl seams are probably cracked and leaking. I would check the driver's front area for moisture. You should immediately remove the seat and all carpeting.

To locate the leak, have an assistant use a garden hose on the windshield and roof while you are in the car with a flashlight under the dash looking for water to drip.

I have an article on our site for A-body cowl seam leaks. Check it out to give you an idea what to expect and look for on your car:

It could be leaking through the seam of the cowl. Basically, you need to reseal it (I used RTV silicon, though I hear that's not a good idea). On a Skylark you'd have to remove the fender to get to all of the seam; I'm not sure how to deal with it on a Riv, though.

    leaky

i had that problem to. i checked the cowl area and it was fine. my carpet used to be SOAKED. then i took a garden hose and sprayed the cowl area.. it was fine but then i took the hose and sprayed the firewall and guess what? the was was coming from 1 those plastic fittings that the throttle cable runs through. A little sylicone did the trick. check all those little fittings out b4 tearing off your front end like i did.

Don't know much for the Riv's but there could be some leak from the kick panel . I had a similar probleme but on right side , at the same period the heater core went out ... I think that was THE problem , so I decide to bypass it . But that do continue to be a little "wet" ....

With the garden hose I discovered that the water came from behind the kick panel , seam/seal was cracked or dried , I bought a product (3m) don't remember the name by heart it look like pitch but stay "soft forever".don't know the english term :Do No: Since I want to dye the kick panel next spring , I'll put this product once again and hope to permenently fix the problem .
Don't want to hijack this thread but if someone knows how or what to do to properly seal the kick panel I'll be please to know a better way to do it and that may help Ol Skewl 67 too .
