Does anyone know the weight of a complete 425HH? I read somewhere that they weigh 685lbs which is exactly what a iron BB chevy weighs. Thought they were lighter than that. I appreciate any info thanks, J
Hey thanks! That's two confirmed weights of the NH weighing as much as a BB chevy! Maybe they just seem lighter because they are so narrow, and the BB chev is so bulky.
A Buick service rep told me 640 lb. i have never actually weighed one though. That would be the true test and if I ever get the chance that is what I will do. One would have to remove the alt. , p.s. pump, a/c bracket. ect. All cars have those. Basicly You would need to weigh the long block with the ex. manifolds and intake manifold, less the carb, but including the water pump and thermostat crossover because they are unique to the n/h engine.
Thought they were lighter than that. the Big Block Buicks ( 400,430,455 ) are lighter than that. the Nailheads ( 264,322,364,401,425 ) are an early 1950s design before they had gotten into thinwall casting. A Buick service rep told me 640 lb. this is the BBB weight. the SBBs weigh ~450lbs. given that the SBC normally weighs ~580lbs with all factory irons on you can see why the more modern Buick designs are so impressive on a torque for engine weight basis.
