Anyone know the exact race weight of a full boided 1966 GS? I know my 65 GS with a 455/TH400 and me in it weighs 3700LBS. That's was with 1/2 tank of fuel, and alum wheels front steel back. Trying to figure out how my buddies similar 66 BB chevelle is under 3500LBS with him in it. The cars are so similar. I know the interior, and grill is heavier on the buick but I don't see where the extra 300LBS is comming from. I know a BB chevy is at least 100lbs heavier than a BB Buick. Thanks, J

front sheet metal weighs a little more on a buick

i think the chevelle should be a little heavier

were they weighed the same time

It does have a fiberglass hood. Not the same time but same scale. The 65-67 chevelles are light. I have had a 67, chevelle, and a 65 elc. Both small blocks. The 67 weighed 3360W me in it. The elcamino had a roll cage, and the boxed frame like my GS and weighed 3500lbs with me in it I weigh 190lbs.

well i do know the rear sail panels are slightly different on chevelles so there not using as much metal somewheres probably there

seems like the chevelle then would be much weaker body wise

It is. The Buick is a much more solid car. I also think the buicks have more sound deadiner in the car also.

    Weight of 66:
    66GS = 3720lbs from "BUICK buyer's guide" by Richard M. Langworth.
The car is longer behind the rear wheels, frame, sailpanels, trunk pan, etc.
There maybe other things, interior, slight increase in front sheet metal.

Thanks! That sounds about right. I know my 65 is 3700 with a 455 which is a little lighter than the NH.

Weighed my '66 GS years ago. Believe it was 3700. Maybe I can find the notes.
Full street car, with some heavyweight items...12 bolt rear, ST400 trans. power steering, power disk brakes, fat front and rear swaybars, bucket seats with console, factory carpet, undercoating, and amp in trunk with 6x9 speakers (couple of pounds right there!). Also 15x7 Buick mags with L60-15's in the rear. Bet I added an easy 200 lbs with some of those 'upgrades'!
Best run was a 13.41 on Alum wheels and Hoosers on the rear.
With a diet, and a bit more power it should be in the 12's....

Was that weight with you in it? 3700 for a mostly stock car and driver is about what I figured. You could be more with your extras.

3700 lbs is just the car, some gas, spare tire, and jack....

Found this in my 'track notes'....
Weight with me (170lbs) and a 1/2 tank of gas (80 lbs) was 3910....so that's 3660 lbs with no gas and the usual stuff in the trunk.
I bet my car, bone stock would've been under 3600.

Using a few 1/4 mile hp calculators (just Google it), I'm making approx 320 RWHP or 385 engine hp to run a 13.4 @102mph.

Hey, your '66 runs pretty good....what have you done to it?

    Thanks for the Info:TU:

    My 66 GS
    -1964 425 +.030(special 9:1 pistons)
    -KB cam(forgot specs) Isky springs & ret
    -Stock intake & carter carb
-Small tube Hooker headers, 2.5'' flowmasters
    - S/P Th400 with stock Riv converter
-Stock 3.08 gears with limited slip

-The engine originaly came off of a Jet engine starting cart from up in alaska. I tore it down and freshend it at 14 years old. Was the 1st engine I ever tore down, and assembeld by my selfe. When I ran the 13.7 I was 16 and it was my 1st time on the track I didn't know how to stage or anything. Probly with Et streets, and a better carb it would go low 13's .
