Dear V-8 Buick parts hoarders (and clever parts scroungers,) In part because I dislike needing to use two hands to blow the horn on my 1965 Buick Special's original fancy steering wheel, I decided to switch to a Grant steering wheel that has a nice simple single horn button: Now I knew this horn had the wrong version of the Buick Tri-Shield emblem. However, when I ordered it I already had a lead for a 1960s replacement. Alas, that scheme and several others have all failed to work out. How I have succeeded in removing the modern emblem: So I need a really clever idea for some source for a nice looking 1960s version of the Buick Tri-Shield emblem. Since this an interior part, it doesn't have to be tough enough to withstand the weather. So my question to you-all would you have laying around a beaten up old interior part that you cannot use anymore, but had a clean Tri-Shield emblem that could be cut out and sent me to me? As an example of a possible "donor," here is a photo of the door panel of the deluxe trim of the 1965 Special: Would someone have a wrecked door panel from a Deluxe Special that would still have a salvageable Tri-Shield logo? Does my question bring to mind some other suitable donor candidates? Alternatively, does anyone know of a reasonably inexpensive reproduction interior part from which I could "extract" a nice looking Tri-Shield logo? I would prefer something at least 1 inch wide and obviously less than 1-1/2" Any bright ideas gang? :idea2: When I bought this steering wheel I assume back-dating the Tri-Shield would be easy but . . . . . . I'm getting a little desperate!! ray: Cheers, Edouard :beer
I'm not sure where I got this but maybe another member might know what's from. I think this might be what you need?? Just remove it from the ring and you have a raised tri shield emblem. Size is 1 1/2 from lower red point to the top of the blue corner and 1 1/8 wide As you can see the colours are not perfect.
Thanks!! (Re: Wanted: Nice looking 1-1/2" Buick Tri-Shield emblem for a horn button.) Dear Buickman, Brian, and V-8 Buick "got a bit of everything in their garage" types, Thanks for the offer, but honestly I think I would prefer what Brian might have. It is a silly reason, but I would be afraid I might hurt my hand if I try to slam my fist on your piece in a panic situation. Having had an accident only 2 years ago, I'm a little paranoid  Thanks Brian!! PM sent! Even this might be better sealed in some sort of casting resin, but somehow I think my hands would be happier slamming into this over anything made in metal!! Thanks everybody for your support of da' trusty wagon caper!! :TU: Cheers, Edouard :beer
They are easy to get too since I just put them in the shed last week after removing them out of a car here. I'll get a picture of it or them tomorrow. Thanks.
How about something like this? adapt a center cap logo- I think I may have something that would be slick, I'll check tomorrow. :bglasses:
Buickman that looks like a 72 skylark hood ornament. ---------- Post added at 09:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:38 AM ---------- Nah looked closer don't know what that is.
Thanks and too big? (Re: Wanted: 1-1/2" Buick Tri-Shield emblem for a horn button.) Hi Brian, Ted, and V-8 Buick "interior decorators," Thanks Brian! Thanks Ted for also trying to come to my rescue! :TU: Unfortunately, I thought of this too, but couldn't come up with anything. A standard Buick Rally wheel center cap logo is too large. The Rally wheels on my trusty wagon are 3" in diameter and I checked with Mitch Romanowski and the center caps he makes have a logo of of 2-1/16". So if you've got a standard center cap, I think it won't work. However, if you would have an undersized one that is only 1-1/2" in diameter, sure that might be just as good. Let me know! Thanks for all your help everybody! Cheers, Edouard :beer
I had a grant wheel on my 65 gran sport went I bought it, I used a 60's big Buick horn tri shield It fit perfect. I went back to a stock steering wheel but I've still have the tri shield emblem if your still looking for one. Harle
May the best emblem win! i(Re: Wanted: 1-1/2" Buick Tri-Shield emblem) Dear Brian, Harle, and V-8 Buick "blowing your own horn" types, . . . Well, that certainly will due if nothing else is available. It might need some cleaning up though and perhaps a bit of touch up paint. Okay, I'll take the bait. Can you take a pic and show me? Your competition is in front of your nose. Can you come up with something nicer than Brian's Tri-Shields? Cheers, Edouard :beer
Current picture "as is?" (Re: Wanted: 1-1/2" Buick Tri-Shield emblem) Hi Harle and V-8 Buick interior decorators, Hmm, does look very nice on the model of Grant wheel you had selected. Could you take a picture of in its current condition? Also, you could just confirm it's diameter? Since I've bought a different model of Grant wheel, I want to be sure it would fit! Thanks for your help! Cheers, Edouard :beer
Edouard IT'S 1 1/2 inches across, here are the pictures. sorry about the bad pictures my camera sucks. Harle
SOLD! (Re: Wanted: Nice looking 1-1/2" Buick Tri-Shield emblem for a horn button.) Hi Harle and V-8 Buick interior decorators, Thanks for trying to get me some pictures. Yes, it takes a special camera to take close ups. However, that's good enough. SOLD! I'll take it. PM sent to arrange the details. Cheers, Edouard :beer
Do you have any pictures of how this turned out? I am looking to do something similiar to my Grant steering wheel. Also the center on the wheel caps. I would really like the 1 1/2" black tri-shield design if someone made them like the center shown in post 5. I can find them in the 2 7/8" diameter but not the 1 1/2" diameter. Probably cost to much to have them made.
Ed, I got 4 of these door panel medals from Brian a year or so ago. I cut the middle of the Grant button out and super glued a Medal in. Turned out pretty nice. I didn't like the Wrong Tri Shield cover either. They're just like the Ones in your First Post. I had to cut the trim off of it. No big deal but the glue is Tuff!
