I have looked and looked for a 3 dues intake manifold setup for my 72 buick Riviera that Im in the process of customizing if anyone knows Please post I need lots of other stuff but thats later Thanks Signed Ray
I seem to remember one on this board a few months ago. It was a custom job, and snapped up immediately. Maybe some searching on this site would turn it up and give you a lead to who has it. (Note the blue buttons on the top right of the screen)
Thank guys well offenhauser says they made them for the old stile buicks but not for the 455 so my guess would be the adapter plate set up is going to be my only option.Bummer I shure wanted a nice clean manifold and carb setup.
He's doing a custom job on the Riv and he likes the look of three two barrels, I'm assuming. It does look cool.
Tri- power manifold Adapting the Chrysler intake is not too bad a deal. It does work. Call Charlie Evans for them. jim N.
who is Charlie Even and how do I contact him do you have a photo of this setup does it stick up in the air to far to clear the hood and ya your right I'm after the cool factor more than speed Ray Juneau Alaska
KB used to carry a manifold adapter kit to adapt the Mopar manifold to the BBBs. I believe it was used to adapt the 383-426 Mopar dual quad tunnel ram made by Weiand. Included were aluminum adapter plates which couldn't be too difficult to make, valley cover, another ez one, gaskets, water fittings and hoses. Since Mopars ran triple two bbls and I'm fairly sure you can buy them new from Edelbrock, Offy and others as well as finding a stock one from Mopar setting up triples on the BBB should be easy to do. You'd probably want to run the Rochester two bbls, but a viable alternative would be the Holley 2 bbl found on 2000cc and 2300cc Pinto 4's. These are nice little carbs with an internally progressive feature. One barrel opens about half way then the other barrel comes in. Since the Pinto 2000cc is 120 cubic inches three of these may be a touch small for a BBB, but 2 bbls are flowed at a different level than are 4 bbls and it's possible the 2 bbls could be just right if they were flowed at the same vacuum level the 4 bbls are. Even if they were a touch small and out & out racing is not involved, gas mileage as well as an engine that responds crisply to a touch of throttle is well within the realm of possibility. Granted, the Holley 2 bbls are probably not a direct bolt on to a manifold set up for Rochesters, but that would be another easy project.
Adaptors! The adaptors are not a big deal. They will not raise the manifold much if any. They just make up the angle difference between the 383 Mopar and the Buick. The ports align very close. You do have to deal with the water cross over as a Mopar intake has no water passage. The intake you must use with these adaptors is one for the 383 or other LOW DECK engines, not 426 and 440's. We used these to adapt a Mopar Edlebrock STR manifold to the Buick and all was cool. JIm N.
I have a picture of a car at BG with 3 twos. I believe it was Ed McHamn's car.I may have misspelled his name. It would have been the late 80's or early90's.I believe it was a red 70 GS. I don't know how he did it.I believe he was from TX. Mike Nussell
Intake Adaptors in Salem! Charlie Evans has just got a new stock of adaptors to put Mopar intakes on Buick engines and will have them at Salem. For those wanting to use the latest Chrysler intakes, these will get it done. Charlie will be in Salem all weekend and glad to sell you a set and help with the tech to get it done. Thanks Jim Netherland
Hi Jim, I talked to Charlie tonight, he and I are ridding up with Mike Phillips (Automotive Machine & Performance). Mike offered to take me and the Apollo in his enclosed trailer. You can't turn down a deal like that. We will be traveling on Thursday, should be there Friday morning. Charlie has adaptor plates for Stage 1 heads (for 383 intake usage) and High Port Stage 3 Heads (utilizes the 440 intakes). Marv.
I'm wondering why got through the trouble to adapt, a dare I sa yuck a mopar part and not go with say a GM. With this rebuild/custom job I'm doing on the Riv I really wanted to use just buick parts like old roadmaster portholes and wild cat fender scops.Signed Ray Rusaw Juneau Alaska
Just Not There! There is just not any GM manifolds that offer the options that you can get with the wide offerings for Mopars. The 400-430-455 was only offered with one type intake and one carburetor option. Nothing wrong with a Q-jet, NHRA Super stockers run fine with them, but if you want something different, this is one way to do it. If you don't want this route or you are happy to go with what you can get that will bolt on, that's fine too. But if you are searching for something different, here's a way. The reason the adaptors are made for Mopar intakes, is they match the ports the best and the difference in the angle of the face of the intake side of the head makes it possible to use these adaptors. Charlie has spent lots of time and money to bring these to the Buick community. If you want them or can use them, that's great. Yes a Buick will run without them but this is another option for those that have the interest and skill to push the envelope just a little more. Thanks Jim N.
