If you don't find one I do have complete shifters available. The handle is different for each year but the shifter will work in 1969 Models. I believe 1968 is different though. I can sell you a 70 - 72 shifter minus the handle if you want to use a 1969 Handle (Shifter itself is the same) That way you're not paying for a Handle you may not use . . . Just an option . . . . . If you find a used one that is missing parts I have EVERYTHING needed to restore or build one of these! You can see all of this on my website's Shifter Parts section > https://www.stage1restoration.com/product-category/shifter-parts/
I'm not an expert on 68/69 but other board members have said there is a difference between 68/69 Shifters? Maybe in the Handle design?? .
Having owned both, I would say a hard NO. At least in the 30 or so 68-69's I have owned...However, Duane has taught me to never say "never"... LOL
Interesting, I wish I could locate the post where some of the board member were stating the differences. I specialize in 1970 - 72 for a reason, I know them inside and out but nobody has ever brought us a 68 or a 69 to restore so I simply don't have the same amount of knowledge on those cars as I do the 70-72 cars. We agree that the Handles are definitely different though ? 68/69 vs 70-72 . . . .
I know ‘68 and ‘69 look different and are more fragile than the later ones and you can bolt a ‘70-up shifter onto a ‘68-‘69 base. Patrick
Here is a picture of a 68 or 69 and 70 to 72 shifter this is a 70 as it has the brown wood grain handle. The 68 and 69 only came with a black handle and it’s much different than the 70- 72 construction . As stated earlier the 68 and 69 could have come with detente for the 2 speed st 300 or a 3 speed turbo 350 or 400.
