There are so many post here about other peoples vehicles was sure what to do about readign them all so i figured i will just post

I am new in the buick world i recetly came across a buick 455 .... right not i have a performer intake on it and only 218 duration but i plan on taking it compltley apart and reduing it ....

I dont have a vehicle jsut of yet but i have a few options .... i just wanted to get the engine and trans up so

1st vehicle option was 80+ Regal .... but need to get emmissions issues solved

2nd was an 1970 Chevy truck ....(4300lbs) eventually raceweight front end to help with weight ..... and Bed

3rd would be just to look for an old Buick skylark i like the 70's

i hit enter too many times .....

What woudl i need as far as cam and header sizes and such

right now i have the rodchester on it but i was planning on buying a new carb for the build up .... any suggestions

10.1 forged pistons .... and maybe lightweight rods depending on price

not sure on the heads i have right now .... new at buicks

how big of a cam would it take to just hit the 11's? mix and match my parts .... try to work with what i have

i would like to do nitrous but no to reach the 11's

    2' header
    950HP holley
    @250/265 .050 110LC - iron head cam-might not make emissions
    10.0 comp
    SP1 single plane intake
Roller rockers 1.6 for iron heads
    TA Sportsman Rods?
Ported Iron heads or Stg2 TE heads

An 80's Regal would be a lighter.
This would be a bit of an aggresive street setup. You could go a little less on cam and still get 11's. This is just a more nitrous friendly build.

what about the car craft setup i seen on there website....

    230/236 dur
    stage 2 ta heads
    10.1 comp
used both performer or ta single plane ..... ta was more power uptop and performer was more out of the hole
and there did you the 1.6 or .65 rockers

you think that would get the regal into the 11's? maybe a bit bigger cam to handle the nitrous better like 240 or so 250/265 is pretty nasty they would listen to it around here and tell me i failed

    live in delaware

anyone around the delaware or pennsylvania area that has already used this combo? and passed emmissions or know which counties that are less strict (mostly pa)?

I will be using a 400 turbo i was wondering about the "switch pitch" converter i have seen it from the poston buick site ...... what do you think i like the idea of being able to adjust the rpm range, they say it will handle 700 ftlbs anyone out there use it?

i have used a (not sure on spelling) viglante converter(3000 stall w/ lockup) and that was really nice in a late 80's vette ..... ran 12.1@118 stock with just exhaust and a 600b procharger
if i didnt like there stall speed they said all i have to do is send it back and they would change it for me

anyone use a viglante? not to sure on the website i was at i will look for it

Your right about the cam. 230-240 on the intake with an exhaust about 8-10 degrees bigger to help flow with a power adder. Lobe seperation 112-116. The wide lobe center will help make the power adder more effecient and will help keep your emissions down. IT will depend how much nitrous you want to spray.
I used a 9.5" Vigilante converter in a 2004r I built behind a 400 Chevy SB. It was a good converter, you generally get what you pay for. It stalled just as it was suppose to and it locked up good up top. I've only used one and it was in a 11.90 Grand Prix so its hard to judge how good it actually is but it appeared to be a well built converter.
On the intake issue, if you a 9" or 10" converter you will never see any benefits of a dual plane. It will only slow you down.
That is a very good build up to go by in that Car Craft build up. I would just stay with the 2" headers and adjust the cam slightly for the power adder.
ATI would also be a good choice for a converter.

WIth alum stg-1 or stg-2 heads, 11's are very easy to obtain , even with a mild camshaft. I love the s-p set-up, I build them for Poston.
With good heads, you can be more conservative on your camshaft, probably get through emissions testing, and still run fast. Jim Burek www.paeenterprises.com
