ok, so I'm eventually going to get my 70 F-85 painted, possibly as soon as this winter. the car is porcelin white with a blue interior. I plan on keeping it the original colors, but will be adding the W-30/W-31 stripes and throwing around which color those stripes should be. I checked my book and from what I can tell there are 4 colors I can choose from with a white exterior. black, blue, red, gold. I was originally thinking black, but am now leaning hard towards gold. what are your guys thoughts? any idea if that gold is galleon gold? burnished gold? nugget gold? my book didn't say. also, didn't someone mention they have the dimensions for the strips and their locations? I would be interested in that also. Thanks. Chris
For once, I have to agree with Casey! White with the blue stripe that I am thinking of would look great! :beer :bglasses:
now that you guys mention it, I do remember seeing a white 70 W-30 convert at Brads last race (which happened to be the weekend I got laid off from work :spank: ) it had the blue strip. I'm guessing azure blue. and I did like it. I have a pic somewhere, I'll have to dig it out.
Feeling Blue Go with the blue stripe. the car you saw may have been Diego's. It is a pale blue with a darker blue stripe.
No brainer.........blue stripe. What does your fisher body plate say for paint code? That had to be Diego's car.
I love the gold stripe on a white car, but I've got to agree with the others, it wouldn't look quite right with blue interior. Are you sure you don't want to do the interior in black? In 1970 (at least) the stripe color wasn't on the Fisher Body tag. Nor is it on the Fisher broadcast card. I've heard that the entire car was striped as one of the last steps of final assembly. The only place I have my stripe color listed is on the Car Shipping Order; it would be on the build sheet if I had one. Gold stripes (code H) in '70 were Galleon Gold, paint code 55.
Brian, I was thinking the same thing. I believe DirtySanchez's car is currently sporting white paint with gold stripes. years ago I almost bought a 68 442 convert. I was going to do it up as triple white with the gold fender strip, thats why I was partial to gold. but you guys are right, probably wouldn't look right with a blue interior. and I REALLY don't want to switch it to black, especially considering it's the best thing about the car. date plate reads 10 for paint code, which is porcelin white. my 70 F-85 parts car is 55, galleon gold. a previous owner sprayed over it with some sh!t brown, beige color. so would the blue stripe color in 70 be azure blue? I'm a little partial to azure blue since my W-31 is painted the 69 equivalent, code 80 powder blue. it has a blue interior with black stripes for those of you scoring at home  now to wrap up things here at work and head home. ugh.
I don't know what AMC called it? I think this is close to Azure blue? BTW, this has Casey's name all over it :3gears:
Dave, That 300 convertable looks like a salmon color! It may have some cool moments, but it leaves me feeling fishy!
What's going on here? Usually Dave H. takes every opportunity to post Oldsmobile pictures in non-Oldsmobile threads. Yet here he is posting non-Oldsmobile pictures in an Oldsmobile thread. Have I slipped through the wormhole into some strange, parallel universe? o No: Next you'll see him singing the praises of Hilary Clinton and a certain lady governor.
Hey, I have nothing against alternative lifestyles.............. See just when you think you know everything, something comes along and reminds you that you don't. Cutlasses came out in 1964, I "came out" in in 1944 and started driving in 1956. Had to do something in a previous life. One of our neighbors in high school had a brand new 1960 Chrysler 300F convertible. Not sure but looked a whole lot like this one. He was a momma's boy (about 40 at the time) and still lived at home (Bates motel comes to mind). Blew our minds when "Mr Rogers" showed up in that car one night. I'll never forget the cross ram induction system and the sound it made when he hammered it. Lots of that kind of stuff around Philly suburbs back then. Another guy had a 57 black Chev 210 with factory fuel injection, and another had a 62 white 409 Biscayne. Both were very strange people, though, had the cars hidden away, and never left home.........??? o No:
My car is white with blue trim all overn (sorry, Paul). I suspect black would be the other color compatible with the blue interior, but white and black is ugly to me. It's a blue not on the paint chip. I like to think it looks like Crest Gel. I'd love to see a white car with red stripes. All the red stripes I've seen were black or Sebring Yellow. (!) In 1968, I believe they had an orange in addition to red, which is kinda strange. I know there's a factory photo of a red car with a reddish stripe - is this the orange? In '71, green replaced red; it looks like a ledger green. In '72, I believe there was a beige as well as the usual gold, black, and white. There probably was another color as well.
Blue stipes with Blue interior. I have a set of Olds Blue prints for the side stripes and the dimensions for hood and deck lid striping which I will be glad to fax to you. John
Diego, yep it was your car I saw at the 2002 Factory Stock race. I liked it because I've never seen that combo before. John, I'll pm you my fax number tomorrow as it's at work. Hopefully I won't forget. Thanks.
