Anyone ever try to remove the vinyl/landau/whatever top from their G-body? Just wondering what holds it on. Trying to avoid a nightmare of grinding off rivets, etc. Thanks!! J

The top is glued on. The trim is the only thing held on with studs. Hopefully, after you remove it you won't find rust like I did. :TU:

I took the vinyl top off of my '78 'cause it was all cracked. Its glued on, but theres aluminum trim that goes around the edges of the landau top (at least on '78) which is held onto the body by metal tabs which your going to have to grind off. I did so with a household dremel, and it took quite a while. There were 7 on the roof, three on each side behind the opera windows and 5 i think on the aluminum panel directly underneath the rear window. Those ones were aluminium so they were a bit easier. you're going to have to do a tiny bit of grinding and sanding but its worth it.

I removed the vinyl top from my 84 and had to sand the glue off. I tried everything from paint thinner to aircraft coating stripper and the glue just laughed at me.
