:3gears: hi just bought a 70 gs 455 owner says it was the orig motor but it was decked but i noticed number stamped on the front of the block and the Vin matched did they stamp them twice or did different plants stamp them in different spots or maybe someone stamped them in when the motor was out my other 455 has the Vin between the plugs can anyone give me some info
In 70 the VIN was stamped on the deck. In 71 Buick went to the front of the block. What is the build date on the cowl tag of your car? Perhaps it is very late in the 70 production year and got stamped like a 71??
the car was built in feburary it dont look like someone did it looks like a machine did it the tops of all the numbers aren as deep as the botom of the numbers
MY 70 GS 455 SR code block has the numbers on the front right at deck level , I never gave it another thought because it isn't numbers matching to my car
mine has it stamped on the left side front of the motor guess diffrent plant put them in diffrent spots
Mine is on the left bank in front of #1 hole and its a Leeds car When I said right under I mean its almost touching the deck. I will try to get a pic later
The Freemont built cars had the VIN stamped on the front of the block with the engine code in the nomal location between # 5 & #7 spark plug. Hope that helps. Larry
