In 70 the VIN was stamped on the deck. In 71 Buick went to the front of the block. What is the build date on the cowl tag of your car? Perhaps it is very late in the 70 production year and got stamped like a 71??

MY 70 GS 455 SR code block has the numbers on the front right at deck level , I never gave it another thought because it isn't numbers matching to my car

The Freemont built cars had the VIN stamped on the front of the block with the engine code in the nomal location between # 5 & #7 spark plug.

    Hope that helps.
