Does the original blue door decal located on the driver's side indicate the vehicle's VIN on a 1972 Buick or any other GM vehicles from 1970-72, Thank you for your response.
Yes. My 72 GS had the month/year it was made, total vehicle weight, weight for the front and the rear listed, the VIN and that it was a passenger car.
Beside the factory label text, my '71 also has only the VIN printed at the bottom of its Blue Label, and the build month / year at the upper right hand side. :beers2:
I thank you both for your quick replies, it seems that I have a misrepresented 72 Buick GS455, I bought my car one year ago and am in the process of making some cosemetic restorations,I noticed this evening that this decal on my driver's side door was painted over, I scaped the paint off and discovered the blue tag, my VIN at the driver's side plate indicates I have a GS made in Flint, MI, this door decal has the VIN indicating that the car is a Skylark Custom and was made in Freemont, CA, of course the production numbers are different. There are two possibilities here, one which is fraudulant, that the car is an original Skylark cloned to be a GS with fake VIN, the other is that the person restoring the car had an original GS and had a door from a Skylark with the tag painted over, I'm guessing on the latter, is there any other way to verify that this car is original GS, the engine was correct at least, thanks again.
Cannot tell because power steering assembly is blocking the numbers, my vehicle appraisal indicates that the engine is a 455 CID numbers matching, I have to have faith that is a Buck GS, not a Skylark Custom, big diffence in NADA appraised values, thank you for your input, must get with you on planned peformance upgrades to my engine.
If you bought it for an investment, then you would want to make sure. If you bought it because it was what you wanted, and you are going to have fun in it, then don't be too worried about the numbers. Have fun in it.
Does the original color of the door match the paint code on your trim tag? Is there any other original paint on the body, and does it match the paint code?
Check for the frame part number. It is behind the drivers side rear wheel on the side of the frame. Should be 12"-18" from the rear of the frame. They are very specific part numbers for each model and year. GS 455 will have its own part number. I am just not sure what it was in 72. You may need a rag to clean off the dirt to see it but it is very visible usually. May be a date code there as well.
