My yoke needs to be replaced (27 spline).

The one that came out of the car has a vent hole. The new one does not.

Should a vent hole be drilled in the new yoke?

    Thanks!

Vent on old one - vent drilled on new one.

    :idea2:

I thought only auto trans yoke had or needed the vent hole? Maybe all yokes now come with hole in order to be a universal fit?

All slip-yokes we saw did not have the vent hole.

Since my old one had the vent, it was decided to drill the vent hole in the new one (I *think* it was 1/8'')

Maybe it's a Muncie 'thing', and automatics do not require the vent? :Do No:

Some auto trans had an internal o-ring on the output shaft that sealed on the yoke. The vent hole was then to relieve air pressure as yoke moved in/out with suspension/driveshaft movement. If you leak with your man trans, clean and silicone or JB Weld, or run a short screw in it, to close the vent hole.
