Well I run 508s cam on the first cam card the valve lash was .30 intake and exhaust I just got a new one in and the valve lash on the cam card was .016 intake and .018 exhaust hot now what makes the change?I,m still running the first cam would it be ok to to lash them at .016 and.018? at .030 they seem to be noisey?I set them at .016 and.018 and it is sounds better but is it ok ??

Yes, it will be fine. Its going too loose that will cause problems. I've see people go as tight a .01-.012 and run the exhaust tight and intake loose and vise versa to see if the the motor responds to more or less spread on the cam.

    How is everyone doing this?

I checked mine after a pass and they loosen about .004 on my car from cold.
So when I'm checking them at home I set them .004 tighter than what I want to run.
This was something I experimented with last year,Seemed like the car became more consistent.

I use the method of starting at TDC In/Ex then just go through the firing order every 90*of balancer rotoation.

I've have also recently found that the IC-EO method is probably even bettter.....(More accurate)

The IC-EO is the best way since it puts the lifter at the base of the lobe which it more critical as cams get bigger. And for those who are wondreing. IC is intake closing and EO is exhaust opening. When the intake is on the closing side of the lobe, about half-way, adjust the exhaust. When the exhaust is starting to open, adjust the intake. Its easiest to do with remote starter switch.
How many people have messed with tight lash settings with good results?

The ic-eo is good to a certian point When you get into large duration fast opening ramp roller cams its harder to tell where you are and you rely more on judgement than actual position of the cam.If you go by firing order you know both lobes are on the base circle.I have found that I am more consistant going by firing order I have checked myself back to back.Valve lash is a good indacator if you have the right cam tighter lash and it goes faster you may need a bigger cam looser and it goes faster you need a smaller cam you must be carfull going looser to loose you will kill the cam and lifters.

I have always adjusted when both valves were closed going with the firing order
