Hi guys I'm new here. I've kinda got my eye out for a '62 Skylark with the 215 and a manual transmission. I'm wondering what I should expect to pay for a good-lookin' mostly original driver, say, with under 80k on it. I got interested in these cars by reading Tom McCahill's old review in one of my Mechanix Illustrated magazines. He seemed to dig it. thanks, James
Hi James, A lot of that depends on the condition of the car, but a 215 4spd car is pretty rare. I've seen a few advertised over the years, but it isn't often. My mom has one of these that is a convertible too. I would think that a nice coupe with a strong motor would be in the $5000 - $8000 range. I've seen some nice 'verts, but with autos, around $8000. I love that body style!!!
Thanks for the reply Steve. Are the 6 cylinder cars with the 4 speed any more common? I'm a bit of an automatiphobic.
That one is really nice. Does it look like it has some wiring hanging down from the dash?Boy, there sure is a difference between the 61-2's and the 63! I kind of like the 63 bodystyle better in the 2 door post. It reminds me of the 61 Ventura body style. I like the 62 in any style (including wagon!!!).
It looks like something under the dash but can't really tell what it is from picture. That car is begging for a 455.
...like Jim B's? If you haven't seen it, go to his page at www.paeenterprises.com and click the link for "Jims Page". Then scroll to the bottom. I'm still waiting for that one to finish! It would be better with the new aluminum block (when it's done) and heads 455. You could just tell people it's a 215! :Brow:
Could this be of any helpo No: http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16124&item=2452686821 I know it's not exactly what u want, but I just thought I would throw this one out there. After all, there is a such thing as a conversion from an automatic and manual, it's jjust harder and expensiver than finding a stock manual.
Thanks. That one looks like a nice project, but I'm looking for something that's a bit more immediately usable. -James
I sent you an email regarding my 62. It's a great car that's looking for a home. No fixin' needed, and it comes with a parts car. If you are interested let me know, I can send pictures of whatever you like. Good luck in the search!
