Ok guy's I have a tough one here....what GM part number sould I go for? Is there a difference between a GS 350 and a standard Skylark for the vacuume advance on the distribuitor? Which one is the best? I have a crane-cam adjustable on mine...I'm thinking this is where my problems may lie with my dist. I'm looking for something that works well with no adjustment.

    Larry,

I have a 68 350 4bbl. According to the shop manual for 1968, the distributor and engine code for a 4bbl 350 had one engine code and one distributor code (1111330), so from a 1968 perspective, it seems that there wasn't a specific GS distributor. I don't know if that changed in subsequent years.

Thanks Dale for the info! I was wondering if there was a different distribuitor vacuume advance between the GS and the standard Skylark model for the 70 year. If so, what is the part number so I can purchace it. I've been having problems with my car running too slow down the track, and I think this is where my problem lies.

    Larry,
Looking at the specs page for the ignition system in my 70 Chassis manual. Looks like all V8 vacuum advance canisters are the same. 350 or 455, makes no difference. All provide 14-18* max advance at 16" of vacuum. Advance starts at 6-8" of vacuum. I had no problem buying a new advance can from my favorite auto parts store. I used a small plastic bushing on the rod to limit the advance to about 10-11*
Going down the track at WOT, vacuum is close to 0, so you shouldn't have any vacuum advance. Shouldn't affect your track time.
