Nice set of wheels for a 71 or 72 these are not correct for 70

I allways liked the look of these as they are not very common and most people dont know they are really buick wheels :Do No: they look a lot like olds cutlass wheels.

That guy has been trying to sell those wheels for a while now - both on ebay and more often craigslist. They are a really nice looking set.

I had a set on my 71 GS455. They fit the classification of "rare, but not really desirable".

    Guys

I also have a set of five getting it ready for powercoating, see attached photos. My question is the correct color for the wheels? I was at the GS Nationals a while back and a older woman, original owner, had a silver 71 GSX with them on and color was a rally grey not dark charcoal. Which was the correct color for these wheels in 1971?

There is no paint code specified for these wheels. They're supposed to be a dark charcoal grey. The wheels that Ryan posted up look like original paint.

I used the darker charcoal color found on Pontiac rally wheels. Eastwood sells it.

This is the set I restored a few years back

    >>Thanks Ryan, I finally got the Buick out of the garage yesterday after a long hibernation this winter. Took a pic of the newly done super sport wheels on the Buick in the sun as my previous pics were only from the garage.

Actually, they're supposed to be more silver than charcoal. The ones mentioned above that are on the Irvin's (sp?) '71 GSX are original and correct.

I have seen variances in the color of the wheels. The originals on my 71 were darker. Ive seen others that are more silver. Maybe because there was no specified code? Im not sure any shade is more correct than any other one.

so what's a set of these worth? I kind of like them but I'm surprised by the asking price of $525. At that price, I'll go with Rallys.

    >>My current set that I had customized I bought for $300 and they were nicely beadblasted and powdercoated already (though that didn't make much of a difference after all the work I had done to them). I bought another used set which needs to be restored for $160.

I've got Chris' first set on my 71. 15x7 up front, 15x8 rear. I like mine, but part of me wants to go with a set of rallys or something flashy to change things up...guess its the cabin fever kicking in after surgery.

I'd do it, except for the fact that I probably couldn't sell them for enough to not come outta pocket for something different.

    >>Hi Fred. If you decided to put on a set of Buick rallys you should definitely also hold onto those super sport wheels - they are hard to find and you are right, you would probably not get the money that went into building them ;-)

I'll probably look into a set of chrome wheels when it comes time for tires. The current ones don't eat, so I guess they can stick around on a shelf in the garage.

I have also seen unquestionably original V7 Super Sport rims in darker and lighter shades. I do not have enough info to tell whether it was due to production plant or date varions, though ... I was not paying enough attention.

It would be interesting to note, though, what the production plant and build date of the '71 cars which have V7 original wheels and the colors (shades).

After talking to many people and having pulled 3 sets off cars myself.... I believe that some of these rims where painted at the factory or dealer to match the car.. to many are off low mile orig cars to have ALL been done all by the owners... and the fact no where does it show in books what the "correct" color is.

Those wheels make Chris's car look more like an Olds...But I like them. I'd love to take a set some decade and make 2 15x7 and 2 15x10.for my car...Lot nicer looking than the Ralley wheels in my opinion...
