Hi i new here and am going to put a buick 455 in my 70 firebird that is set up for a buick 231. I understand the motor mounts with the rubber are the same but someone told me the frame mounts that connect to the rubber mounts are the same across the board. Can anyone verify this hate to not buy them then be stuck. If not the same konw where i can get some of those framce brackets.
if the car is setup for 231 you can go to a 350 buick 455 will require different mounts and frame pads possible drilling for them also there is a sticky for a 455 in a regal you might want to review that
Mounts When I put my 455 in my regal it was a pain in thee ass for the mounts I had to drill out new holes and torch 3 slits for each mount to put a ratchet wrench on the end of a bolt...It took me about 3 hours for 6 bolts and about 2 bottles of tylenol. But hot damn its worth it when you go to the track :3gears: . I called TA about the mounts and im told theres no special designed mount for that swap theres just mounts that work well. My left side mount actually hangs over my frame about a quarter inch. I bought my mounts at a buick race for 25 bucks I think. If you can fabricate well you could probably make up some pretty easily and just weld to the frame..But mine were aluminum.
sounds like you used the forward block mount holes,i used the rear aluminum mounts from ta also, used a snap on swivel on a wobble extenstion and went into the control arm slot got all the bolts that way no extra holes if 70formula would like a set of stamped steel mounts to weld down i will cut them off my first regal chassis for 40 bucks. it worked well for 12s but my new regal is much prettier so out the came
studs When I put the 455 mounts in my Regal I never could get the bolts started (even using a wobble socket) so I used grade 8 studs (with alittle locktite) on them and just drilled the six holes in the frame and lowered the mounts into them. I then used nuts (the kind with the serated washer attached to them) and secured the mounts by going up through the lower "A" arm slots. Even then it took me three hours to get all 6 nuts on the studs. If I would have had a welder I would have just welded them in I was so frustrated. I can't believe with so many 455 transplants in Regals no one sell mounts that will fit the already drilled (from the factory) holes.
Sounds just like my fun time...I was also thinking the same thing you would think there would be some mount fabricated by now.
