Option or export only? I have a copy of the 69 Assembly Manual and as far as I can tell the GS 400 with the red line tire was export only. Anyone know for sure? Brian
Actually PW8 was F-70-14 Wide Oval Red Line but it was only available as "Export Only" on Skylarks and GS's P81 was also F-70-14 Wide Oval Red Line but it was available on GS350 and GS400 models. What the difference is besides the codes? Not sure... :beers2:
Perhaps a brand differnce? Another possibility is back then some tires were offered in 2 ply and 4 ply.
It would be nice to know the differences if there is. My Accessory option code descriptions read like this. PW8 F-70-14 Wide Oval Red Line (Export Only) P81 F70-14 Fiberglas Belted Wide Oval Redwall I'm going out on a limb... My spare tire is a red line and I'm hoping that maybe the car was sold in Canada. I think its original to the car and I hope to hear from Uniroyal soon on the manufacturer date code. It doesn't say fiberglas on it but has Dynacor Rayon. Also says 4 ply rating-2 ply wide. Some paper documentation from GM Canada would be COOL! Brian I talked to Mich/Uniroyal today and it appears the tire was made the 45th week of 1967. Honestly though both people I talked to seemed rather confused. There were no numbers after the letters DOT but just above it on the inside of the tire was 67BR 45 and that was as close to anything they could understand. One person told me the BR should be the plant where the tire was made but didn't show up in her plant codes (closed probably). Mine is a 4 ply tire with a 2 ply sidewall. It doesn't say Fiberglas on it so maybe it is an export (PW8) tire. It will cost less than 20 bucks to find out if the car was sold in Canada from GM Canada so its worth it. Brian
