U-Joint socket extension too wobbly?

Here's a tip I got from my Dad a year or two ago-

If you are trying to get your socket around something a little out of reach (like a spark plug) and are using your U-joint ratchet extension to do it, you may find that your U-joint is a little to flexible to hold the angle you need to get things lined up. This is especially true if you are using a deep socket or have a nut or something in your socket weighting it down.

Dad's tip: Wrap the u-joint in duct tape. The tape will flex enough to let you put things at the angle you need and for the u-joint to operate, but it will also give it enough stiffness to keep the angle you want when you are getting things lined up.

I use a 1/2" masking tape. It will break free and tear after you start to turn the bar. Much needed tool for 455-Regal swaps.

Good call. Different tape for different applications. The duct tape trick works great for getting at those back spark plugs.

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

    We use...

We were always told by our dad to use electrical tape on ours. Leaves very little to no glue when removed.:TU:
