Turbocharged 350 or 455?

Low boost doesn't aiways mean small gains, a BWs475 on a stock ford 302 can make 450rwhp all-day, been done thousands of times at this point, a 70+mm with a .98 or larger AR on the exhaust with a nice wheel can make some steam with very little boost. Gotta size them correctly

Just to post a DIY turbo system and my accompanying costs:

    - CX Racing turbo kit: Came with everything. (went over turbo and got the CHRA balanced via VSR... even though I am only running low boost) Price: $400.00
    - Headers: Came off Land Rover Discovery (remember, I am running a Buick 300: old 215 and land rover design) Price: $100.00
    - Crossover pipe: custom made total price: $60.00
    - Edelbrock carb with blow thru mods: Price: $200.00
    - Carb hat: Price: $75.00
    - Downpipe: custom made Total price: $40.00
    - turbo oil feed/return lines: Custom made Price: $30.00

Total cost was a smidge under 1K. Mind you, this is just for the core setup. This doesn't account for all the little things. Also, due to room constraints and low boost, I am not running an intercooler.

Including the motor and all what you see in the picture below, I have about $1,800-$2,200 in the turbo swap.

    Just some food for thought.

The little things?? I'm assuming this isn't a running driving car yet??? Open your wallet.

Charge pipe and clamps free.. oil fittings free.. Fuel system either existing, or will have to be built. Guess you will just tune it by the seat of your pants? 6 Psi will blow out the spark on a stock system even if you gap the plugs way small. Gotta do something there. Need to address the timing somehow as well.

I'm so tired of hearing how a decent turbo setup can be done for cheap.

    DO IT AND PROVE IT.

    ADD IT ALL UP..

Esasky's85GN. Not singling you out. Not an attack on you at all. Keep up the work.

Another FYI eye opener. Not sure how it is in your market, but finding an exhaust shop willing to do any custom work around here is all but impossible. And if you do, i'm not sure if they are capable/talented enough to merge the bypass valve into the downpipe and then exit between the block and frame. It's tight.

DAVE TUMAS made my down pipes. You can't buy that.

Curious, what entails supercharging a buick 350?

Money , the kits are rite at $7k the bracket isn't sold by itself from the supercharger store, BBC kit can be made to work and a SBC kit can as well I believe both with an adapter made to mount to the Buick head. Rob at Precision Billet makes a bracket, can't remember what he gets for it to. A P1 or D1 head unit can be picked up for $800 to $1500 then you have to get a carb or modify one . I myself don't count every little thing under $200 you may run across. I've built to many cars to worry about the piddly stuff.

No, not running and driving yet but will be in spring. Isn't my 1st turbo rodeo either so I am familiar with wearing out the spine of my wallet. :) Look at my sig... One of my toys is a GN.

Fuel system is still in the works but @ only 4PSI, adding additional FP for the boost isn't going to be rocket science. No, I have a bung for a WB and a FAST tuner I use on other cars. Timing @ 4 PSI shouldn't be an issue either. Adjustment will bedone during tuning. Too lean on WB and I get out of it. :)

I didn't say it was cheap. I basically said where I was at in my build.

No offense taken at all Jay. Thanks!

I am fortunate to have a custom exhaust builder as a close friend. For my build, we didn't do a BPV design. I decided I wanted it to exit to atmosphere so I have a dump coming off my DP.

Talk about tight...? try putting a Buick 300 with a turbo in a Y body. :)
