    The Year: 2000
The Place: Odessa Texas, service road to 191
The Players: My '87 Turbo T white GNX clone, 3.8, ta49, 210 cam, 42# injectors, weld wheels with ET streets, 18# boost.
The Boss 429, '69 big cam,(didn't sound stock) flowmasters, wide rims with drag radials, 4 speed.

The story: This Boss lived two streets over from my house, owned by a gentleman in his late 50's or early 60's, (he also has a 71 Pantera). I had
seen him drive both cars at different times but never ran into him until we both were headed into town and got caught at a light that had a double turn lane. I was in the inside lane when he pulled up next to me in the Boss. It sounded badass next to my quite "T". the light changed and we rounded the corner together and I think he thought he would get in front of me before our lanes merged into one lane abought 1/4 mile ahead. He jumped on the Boss in 1st and I was ready for him. The boost came on fast and his fender lead disappeared and I rocketed away from him to his great surprise. He wouldn't pull up next to me at the next light. I don't think he expected a Buick to run like that (high 11's at the track). Here's a pic of my car. I took this car to Buicks at Bristol in 2000. The fuel pump went out at 24# boost, burnt a perfect circle the size of a pencil in two pistons, blew the oil out of the engine and caught on fire at the 1/8 mile. I coasted to the end of the track and waited on the safety crew to put it out. Waited a year to rebuild the engine and repaint the front of the car. I sold it in 2002 to pay bills during a slow period in the oilfield.

Very cool...one of the great things about Buicks is they are all underestimated by the usual crowd.

I've gotten some very  looks from people...

Sure I respect the idea of the Boss 429, but they just didn't run well as a street car.
    Congrats on the spanking! :3gears:

    X2 on that.
Sort-of reminds of the stories of 440 six-pac cars out running a Hemi in the same model car. Just because the peak hp numbers look higher on paper doesn't mean it will run quicker. The torque band of the engine is what really matters.

I bought a new charcoal gray `87 Turbo T and even though I never modified it, it still sent a few guys home scratching their heads. At that time very few people even knew what those cars were.

:TU: in December 1984, I was taking a carb class at the GM training center, we were just sitting around BSing and the instructor said Buick was coming out with an improved turbo 3.8, he said it would blow the doors off a Mustang GT, , we all just kinda laughed him off  ... guess he got the last laugh :3gears:

Mine ran a 14.11@99mph bone stock, even on those worthless Goodyear Eagle GT's that it came with.

invite him to a track and post time slips, im sorry i do street stages all the time but its no kill. time slips at the track r the only true proof you both treated the even as a race
