Here's the story: Built this last fall for a customer. We upgrade his cast piston build to forged pistons, I decided to give the Wiseco reverse dome pistons a shot. Customer was very worried about cold engine forged piston noise. Since all my previous builds of this type had been either TRW or SRP pistons, I assured him that this would be no problem. Those pistons are quiet when cold. Unfortuantly for me, these Wiseco pistons are not. Noticeable piston noise when cold, goes away after engine warms up. All Wiseco pistons are like this, this is nothing unusual, and is considered "normal" for this piston. But, in keeping with my customer satisfaction policy, I built a new SRP Piston shortblock for his car. So this one is available now. While I could use the parts for this on a different build, I though it would be a good idea to offer it up for sale, in case one of you out there is looking for a good shortblock, want it quick, and wouldn't mind saving some coin. Dyno time and less than 100 miles. The particulars: 1976 "735" block- with the following operations performed Sonic checked Thermal and chemical cleaned Align Honed to my specs Decked for .020 deck clearance (Iron head motor for 9.6 compression) Bored and honed to piston manufacture's spec, with torque plate installed Appropriate oil mods for 400-500 HP engine Frost plugs installed TA dual groove cam bearings installed Painted Buick Red Parts: Factory virgin crank, mag check and ground to spec size (.010/.010) Buick 455 rods, resized, ARP bolts installed Wiseco Forged Pro-Tru Reverse dome pistons Speed Pro File fit rings- filed for NA applications TA Performance new cam of your choice Delphi check ball lifters TA/Rollmaster Billet timing chain Factory 5/8 oil pickup Factory 455 rear sump oil pan- have center sump pan available if needed Factory 455 timing cover- ported, and assembled with TA shim kit and oil pressure booster plate, along with a ported factory 455 oil fiter housing. Hey Jim, I'm interested since I was hoping to send my "fresh" motor with bad thrust bearing to you by the end of the month. Maybe this is a better play? Let's talk. My motor has the T/A billet rods/SRP pistons though-maybe not a big deal for what I want to do anyways. Now the question is do I send you my Iron heads or spring for a killer set of Aluminum STG 1's By the way, my first car when I was 15 was a '69 Z/28 with all orig. DZ302...... I KNOW what piston slap sounds like on a cold morning!!!ou: Thanks!! Jerry Shumard.
Give me a call Jerry, and we can talk about it.. I will be in the shop till about 4PM central time today. David your up next, replied to your PM. JW
Sitting at a traffic light, look at the oil pressure gauge 0lbs.Had normal pressure at previous traffic light.I immediately shut it down when I got thru the intersection(3 lane highway,I am in the middle lane of course)I get a ride home, picked up my trailer & towed it home.As the car is sitting on the trailer,I notice oil dripping.Turns out the pressure regulator unscrewed itself on my less than a year old new $ 700 + front cover.Changed the oil & filter, tightened the regulator and the pressure is back to normal.Opened up the filter & it looks clean.Don't know if I am out of the woods with this yet.......
Jim I called you last week about a Buick motor. I am going to Bowling Green but would like to talk to you about this motor if it still available when I get back. Thanks- Ari
Jim, What does the C/R work out to be with Edelbrock heads (66 cc, I believe)? Any idea what truck freight to a business inSo Cal. (Zip 92801) would be? Thanks, Jim.
Hello All, I guess it's up to the seller to post status but..... I've got this tied up with Jim and sent deposit already. (Guess I better send out the balance before I lose out...) p Dan, Not sure if you remember me, met thru Ray Dority many years ago. My friend Mark Degeorge & me had the orange '72 GS and black Electra. I'm in San Jose, Mark in Manteca CA. You still have that beautiful Yellow convt? Still have that orange 40-something car in the garage-that was a wild car all steel! This motor from JW is going back in that same orange '72. Hope all is well. Jerry Shumard
Hello, Jerry. Yes, I do remember you.... and it's good to hear from you. So, I guess if I'm to lose out to someone, it should be you. My Yellow convertable is now fully restored, but it is Corvette Torch Red, now. I also built the 350 up to around 325 HP (at the flywheel), but I'm itching for a big block. I'll catch the next one, I guess. Any idea how much shipping will be? Take care.
