Hello, do manual shift cars use the same pastic trim panel that fits behind the accelerator, brake and clutch pedals ( appears to hold the carpet in place largely)? It seems like the clutch pedal hits this pretty hard on shifts and almost as though there isn't enough travel. Shifts ok, but feels funny. Mine car had a broken one ( only half) and I installed a new complete piece. Thanks, Steve
In terms of free travel, is there a bump stop that keeps the pedal from hitting the floor plate? I don't recall my Camaro ever wanting to get even close to the floor. Different chassis, of course. Steve
The pedal should have about an inch or two of free play, and it should grab somewhat high on the pedal. Maybe three quarters up. As far as it hitting the floor, there's no bump stop. It stops when it hits the trim panel. If its grabbing very low or close to the floor, thats a problem. You may have to simply adjust the clutch rod, or it could be something more serious
I would not run 2" I kept my 4spd cars close to 1". Your right there is no stop on the 4 spd pedals but if you get used to shifting with the pedal near the top you should be ok. It is a fine line however to make sure you do not hurt the clutch by havingit adjusted with too little travel. I bet if you wanted to you could add a stop above the trim piece
Thanks guys. I think I have the clutch set up correctly. Just used to shifting cars that require a lot more travel to disengage. I might experiment with a rubber bump stop , just to protect the panel. Neurotic. Thanks, Steve
Steve nothing wrong with being neurotic. As long as you know it I have had mostly 4spd Muscle cars since I was 16 now at 51 I own Buicks and they usually do not have the manual in them. I have collected all the parts to convert a GS to q 4spd except the floor hump and am trying to get Rick Henderson to hook me up
